I got this wild hair to think about if this is possible. I'd need donor parts and it might not be possible, just thought i'd throw this out there.
My eagle summit (R.I.P.) had automatic seatbelts. this was awesome because I'm lazy and was very convenient. Of course not everyone likes them, but i was curious if anyone has experience with these and if its worth trying to do to my 2g.
The setup i'm going for is when the door is opened, the shoulder belt moves from a fixed point near the seat back on a track mounted in the door frame of the car to a point at the other end of the track near the windshield. Once the door is closed and the car is started, the belt moves rearward along the track to its original position, thus securing the passenger. The lap belt doesn't really matter to me. Doing it manually is fine for that.
Anyone familiar with these systems and possibly installing it on a 2g? If possible, I'd do a write up.

I fucking HATE automatic shoulder belts. With a fucking passion. I have a feeling that I'm not the only one.
Good luck with that Mikey, You're gonna have to find a donor car that has a VERY similar door/roof/b-pillar shape (probably not gonna happen) and figure out how to mount the guides. Then you're gonna have to figure out how to mount the tensioner assembly in the center console (whoopsie, there's an airbag computer there, and our center console is too shallow)
Oh, you're also gonna have to make custom pillar trim pieces and modify the headliner to fit the slide rails. let's hope you're not tall, because the roofline just got a little lower.
Can you do it? Maybe
Is it worth the time and effort to rip your car apart to try and figure it out? Probably not.

holy crap, thanks for destroying my hopes and dreams! LOL. I don't know what's involved, but after looking at it from a friends car (from the pic), it looks to be a simple design. You're right tho, i need donor shit... hard to find.

You want to take the most ANNOYING aspect from the nanny approach to cars and put it on a 2g? My God man, what the hell. Don't stop there, add a shift buzzer to tell you when to shift. And don't forget: MORE CHIMES. Chimes for the trunk, gas gap, key position, passenger seatbelt.
And add another CEL to the dash, because if something is pointless why not duplicate it, like Obama's economic stimulus package. And oh yea make sure to put it in the wiki, so I can add the awesomeness to my own car someday.
*sorry, this is what happens when you've worked 300 hours the past month*
Remember. MORE DOOR CHIMES
