#104376, "newb with crazy idea"

A close friend of mine has a 97 Spyder. We were in a junkyard yesterday and found a 2000ish Eclipse. We got thinking and are considering getting the rear clip off of it and putting it on his 97. Has anyone ever done that before? I've been looking on here a few hours and haven't found anything yet.

Before anyone says it is too much work, we both understand it's going to be a lot of fab work. But that's what we do.

why? in my opinion the 2g rears are much "sexier" if you will. theyre already designed to flow well with the overall design of the body. to each his own, but it just seems like too much work for something so simpler and not necessary. good luck.

I guess just to be different, and his wife really digs the rear ends of the newer generations.

mounting might be different along with the widths of the cars. There is also going to be the time to wire the anything extra along with body work to make it fit correctly and look good. Consider every thing that has to be done before doing it. It can be done but how much effort are you willing to put into it.

Our biggest concern is the width, and the shape of the quarters. The quarters are less of a worry, as the metal can be massaged. We aren't sure if we want to try using the decklid as well, or just the tail lights and rear bumper.

Wiring is the least of our concerns. That is the easy part. Just to clarify, we aren't going to replace the entire rear clip, just the area around the tail lights and decklid.

You must have misunderstood me as I wasn't implying that you were replacing the whole rear of the car. I understood the first post as you were talking about the rear section of the car as far as bumper lights and rear deck. My sister has a 3g and there are extra lights there along with a difference in how the blinkers are on the 3g versus the 2g. Reverse lights on those also have a rear marker light in the same housing. I would suggest just the rear bumper. It would be an easier swap but if you want to attempt doing the rear deck and taillights be my guest. Don't mess up a nice 2g for the sake of wanting a 3g rear end.
