Hey,

My car has always needed hatch struts. Never replaced them because they were like 60 or so a piece at Advance.

Browsing Rockauto last week, found the Monroe ones for 10.89 a piece.

Bought them, put them on today. Work great, fit great, awesome deal. Figured you guys may like them too!

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1432931,parttype,1404

I ordered the 901354 and 901355. Thats left and right. Came to like 28 shipped for 2, although I ordered 3 sets.

Laters!

I just ordered mine from RockAuto too Tim. Installed them yesterday, great deal!

I too have been putting up with failed lift supports and keeping a cardboard tube as a prop device for years now.

Nice find Tim! I am going to order a set today as well. Sick of having to either pull the hatch lever more than once or use my key to open the hatch.

This won't be fixed by hatch struts. You're going to have to modify the hatch latch itself. There's a write up somewhere, I think in the wiki. I'll be ordering a pair sometime. Just not until later. Mine are rusted to shit.

I'm broke, it's broken. I'm broke because it's broken. It's broken because I'm broke.

You know you can take the price, making sure to include shipping totals, and go to your local stores and price match them. I know at Advance we did. You need to take in a print out of the cart with the total plus shipping charges. Advance Auto Parts will price match just about everywhere as long as it is not on ebay or any other auction type website, you just gotta have a print out. If it has free shipping, make sure that you print that part out too.

When I worked at Checker (aka: shucks, kragen and oreilley's) we wouldn't touch any internet deals that were below our cost on the parts.

Umm. Your wrong.

Yes there is a write up, and that may be the issue on some cars.

But both of my Eclipse hatches now work fine, and they both wouldnt fully unlatch.

With just new struts.

I would imagine that a set of brand new pressurized struts will make my hatch open fine. The ones I have are old, and the hatch rarely opens on the first pull of the lever.

I will however look into this latch wiki you are referring to Nicho..

After I replaced mine, it worked great till winter hit down here then it didn't want to open like it was supposed to. I went ahead and did the mod anyways to get it taken care of.

Thanks Tim! I have had the issue with having to pull up when popping the hatch with lever or key. I'll have to get me some of those. I've known about rockauto forever and never thought to look for those there!
Good one!

I hate to admit it, but I think Nicho was right to recommend azdave's latch fix before going with a new set of struts. The struts are really only there to hold the hatch open once it has been popped and pulled up. The spring mechanisim in the latch is what is actually responsible for the initial pop of the hatch.

In the thread posted above by azdave, he tells you how to quickly and easily adjust this spring mechanism to make the first pull of the hatch lever the only one you will need.

If your current hatch struts still have enough internal pressure to hold the hatch fully open, and your only issue is the hatch not popping open when you pull the lever, I would try azdave's latch fix first before going ahead and buying new struts. I did it and it worked perfectly!

Except for when your hatch struts hold the hatch open, you have done azdave's spring mod, and it still doesnt pop.

You guys take two examples and take it to heart. Both of my 2gnt's had the same issue and azdave's mod done. New hatch struts fixed it because the old were so worn.
