ok maybe someone will answer this time:

Replaced the idiot light sender, have yet to replace the pressure sender, which I may or may not end up doing. I think the wire is somehow grounding itself against the power steering cooler (which I moved slightly to make room for the front mount.

Will electrical tape insulate it enough if just laying next to the power steering wire is enough to ground it, or should I insulate the wire with something else? ANy ideas?

p.s. BISS screw is backed out flush, but still in there pretty tightly...

Electrical tape will work fine. That is what it is designed to do.

I'm so fricking sick of this car right now. I have to drive to west virginia on saturday and the oil light is still flickering. I insulated all of the wires with electrical tape, replaced the actual guage sender as well as the light sender, and now i'm thinking i'm actually getting lean oil conditions. It doesn't flicker when the engine is under load or heavy braking---but I thought oil pumps went out all at once?!? I'm out of ideas as to what this could be---I think i'm going to hook up the mechanical guage and glue a magnet to the back of it, then just stick the fucker on my hood and drive up to WV like that...

thing is, it flickered still when I completely disconnected the oil light sender cable altogether....

it may just also be a short in the wiring up to the oil light or maybe even the light bulb itself. take the cluster out and put a tester up to the oil light wire or something and replace the bulb. otherwise, i personally, would take it to satan for them to check it out. becuase if it is the main bearings, you're going to be screwed if you don't get it fixed in time. and lol, if you really have to, tape the guage up to your window...i was just thinking it would be hard to see on your hood.

Relax. My old roommate has a 97 TSi AWD. His oil light did the exact same thing all the time. He still has oil pressure, the light just flickers.

If your car is still running, chances are you don't have low oil pressure

Still be cautious, but chances are it is just a stupid wiring thing.

so it turns out it IS the wiring, its coming from a large harness next to the alernator. However, since I really need a lift of some kind to take a closer look at it, and i want to be DOUBLY sure its not the oil pressure, i took it in to mitsu today to have them only look at the wiring and check the oil pressure (again, that will make 2 separate checks w/2 separate guages).

They have to call me before they do any work on the car besides looking at it, so hopefully they'll stick to it. If they do anything but replace that wiring harness or open it up and fix it, i'm gonna start spewing fire...

man I wish I had a lift.....
