I've been having problems with my car lately. First my car died on me a few months ago. I figured it would be the alternator since I just changed my battery a month before and it wont start when I get it jumped.
A week after my car started hesitating when I started it which eventually led to car not starting at all. So I took it to Kragen and had my battery checked (only 2 months old) they said the battery is dead.
So I got a new battery and the car starts again, but with the hesitation like before and a week after that the car wont start and it will only start if I get it jumped.
So today I got a mechanic to check it out and he said my alternator is broken so I took my alternator back and got a new one and still it wont start only if I get it jump.

Are there any aftermarket accessories that could be draining the system? Something might have come loose or was not installed properly that is causing a drain.
Your symptoms sound like a dead alternator though. Checking the wiring around that area to make sure everything is in good condition.

what aftermarket guages/other accessories are you running? If the alternator isn't the culpit, i'm willing to bet your guages or something else is hooked to constant power (red) instead of switched power (blue or green).
what does your boost guage read when the car is completely off? Does it read " 0 " or does the needle lay against the pin at full vac?

I have a boost gauge, EGT and AFC 2. The boost gauge goes to 0 when the car is off. Well I actually got the car to start now (its the alternator all along) but the weird thing is, is that my speedometer is acting funny. Even at idle the gauge would fly all over the place from 0-80 and when Im driving the car would monentarally stay at what i believed to be the right speed and then fly's all over the place again. When I bought this car the owner changed his gauge its actually 8,000 miles since he changed it at 70k.
Well Im sure its a separate issue it sucks that my old GST was actually in better condition than this one. what was I thinking selling it haha.

double check where the power wires are connected to on the guage...it shouldn't read "0" with the car off and the key out of the ignition, it should read a maximum negative vac (arrow resting on the pin).

I think it's supposed to sit at 0. That's what mine does. As does Jeff's. It's a mechanical gauge, therefore if it is reading vacuum, it means the car is in vacuum, pulling air in. When the car is off, it is neither in vacuum or boost, therefore a 0 readng. An electronic gauge perhaps but mechanical (which I assume most people here use) would read 0 shut off.

Not to completely disagree with you matt, but what i'm getting at here is that the guage (if its electronic) should rest on the pin at full negative vac when the car is completely off (no key in the ignition). Someone with an electronic guage on this board earlier had the same problem with dead batteries---he used a constant power source instead of switched for the guage. If the guage is reading "0" when the key isn't in the ignition, that means its reading boost (zero) when it shouldn't be getting power at all...that's what i'm trying to figure out--if his batt keeps dying b/c his guages are always on. Didn't he say he already changed the alternator out?
no disrespect!!

The only power source that any gauge should have as far as a non-permanent source is the light, attached to a switchable source for night time. Electronic gauges need contant power (plus a switchable source for night-time viewing). If it is reading from an external source then yes, with no key, it should be all the way down, but I don't think he has an Electronic boost gauge. That's not a relevant point as far as I can tell. Any electronic gauge feeds of an electronic signal, not the mechanical signal of the temp, pressure, etc, so that HAS to be to a constant source (key in means gauge is reading).
But who has an electric boost gauge (I.E. autometer etc.)? I think we are discussing something entirely irrelevant to this particular situation.

i have an electronic boost guage, and no, i havent found a good source yet so i just plugged both power sources i needed into the running lights. flip em on, start the car. simple solution for the time being.

there is a ground cable that goes from the firewall to the battery that will get messed up my car died wouldnt start but if i left it i would get some power but not enough to do anything it cost me $2. this prolly will not help you but who knows
