#9101, "Cams, valve spring compressor (possible problem) and progress pics."
Ok Ive tried 3 different valve spring compressor to get my springs and valves out. I rented one from autozone before I realized it wouldnt work. Then I bought one from sears and ended up breaking it and gettin another one. Cant get that to work either. So I made the one with the bar on vfaqs. well I got one out ok in about 45 mins (not including making the damn thing). One the second one the clamp popped loose and made a mark where the cam spins on the head.
So my question is. Can the head where the cam sits be fixed? Its not very bad. I tried to take a pic but cant get a decent one in the light.
Also does anyone have a vavle spring compressor that I can borrow. Ill do whatever it takes to get it from you if you know it will work on a 4g63 head. I only need it for about a week. Just long enough to get the old valves out get the head surfaced and put in my SS valves.
Im gettin frustrated with this thing. Im about to just part it out and call it good. I just have a lot of time and money in it so far and would really like to see what comes of it when its back together. Granted I'm pretty much doing a complete restore of the car. Its complete torn down. Chasis on wheels thats it. Body is going back together right now. Waiting on my taxes to buy a welder to finish some Body work then the body will be completely back together.
I need some words of encouragement here... lol
Rear of the car body work finished and just primered yesterday. Will get a few more coats once all body panels are back on.
Front of the car. Body work not quite complete. as you can see... Im replacing the corner there that you notice is missing. Im just welding a piece in there from a donor car.
Heres the block completely torn down ready to go to machine shop. Just need to get the head torn down and it will all go together.
Heres my wall of parts... everything that came off the car is back there somewhere. You can even see one of my 15 x 9 slicks in the back ground. I have a complete set of 4. Just need wheels to mount them on.
Sorry for the long post. Im just getting excited to see it finally taking shape.

I don't know if there is anything I can say that will encourage you but that is ONE HELL OF A PROJECT you got there! What are your plans for after it's together? What kind of goodies do you got in store?

My short term goals are 300hp. Im only doing a factory rebuild right now. 2g pistons and 1g big rods. After I get it running. learn the 4g63 a little better, and learn to tune I will probably tear the motor down again and do a complete forged rebuild.
Ill prolly end up pushing the rebuild Im doing now till it gives. Im hoping for 400 hp on stock internals.
I have 2 6 bolt blocks and 1 7 bolt blocks so im not too worried about ruining a block.

Can anyone tell me if the cam surface on the head can be fixed... I hope I didnt ruin the head. Someone let me know so I can finish tearing the head down to take to the machine shop.
