#8912, "over heating!"

finally got my 1G running again. serpintine belt snapped, so the alternator didnt power the battery. Got all that sorted out and now when I drive more then 10 miles the heat goes into the red, and Im sure it has plenty of coolant.

Tony is absolutely right. Thermostat and water pump are first to check. Also fans. Beyond that, maybe headgasket.

I bought it with a blown engine (snapped timing belt I have pretty pix) buddy had a spare NT 4G63 2.0 block to drop in, so I bought the car. Then we dropped the block in. Lower radiator hose broke/fell off and when the local shop fixed it they musta done something to the belt (it was new) cause a few days later it snapped, which caused the water pump to not...pump?

so when I got the steam box home I knew the alternator wasnt workin cause the battery was dead, I thought the steam was just the lower radiator hose coming off again and spraying coolant everywhere, like last time. So I got a spare alternator and a new belt, install, car fired up , no problemo, but after the recent test drive I could tell it was the headgasket cause of where and how much steam was coming out of the engine not to mention the flumes of white smoke coming from the exhaust ( a fucking fart cannon BTW)

Make sure that you are in fact overheating. Check if the water in the reserve is boiling over. If not, it could be a faulty thermostat sending unit, which sends a reading directly to the gauge cluster. It would show that it's overheating, when in fact it's not.

The thermostat is about $15 from the stealership. Just get a brand new one now and don't worry about it again for a long time. Especially because you'll pull the head, it will be a very easy fix and one less problem that can occur in the future.
