I read somewhere that you can just cut the end off of the balance shaft for the oil pump gear side. I went ahead and did this to keep everything together so I dont lose any parts. I plan on reusing the BS bearings to block off the oil holes. I got them out without damaging them.
Can I just use the end that I cut off or would it be better for me to go buy the shaft from the 1.8 mirage motor?
Also what size freeze plug do I need to block off the other shaft hole?

it seems that you can reuse them if you did a good job and know what you are doing. im going to be doing this myself soon, but i plan on getting the shaft from the 1.6l mirage.

lol... hack it... you should be my GS right now with the nightmare timing belt change Im going thru...
But the BS bearings are pretty new prolly about 10k on them. Plus they only need to block the oil hole. I went ahead and cut the end of the shaft off just to keep everything together so I dont lose anything important. The stub wont cost me anything from the dealership so Im really not worried about cost. I figured Id work with what I had on hand and see what happens. Im not going to use the rubber plug they talk about on vfaq. Id rather get a freeze plug and go that route. Its gonna be a few months before the motor goes back together. Im already over budget and have to cut some costs here and there if I want to finish this car.
