#7477, "Timing belt tensioner pulley failed BIG TIME"

I did a timing belt job, and I put in a brand new timing belt tensioner pully. When I started the car I heard squeaking and the timing belt was smoking so I turned the car off. I've been trying to diagnose the problem and I finally found that the timing belt tensioner pulley was caught on the tensioner pulley arm. The pulley stayed stationary while the timing belt ran across it. I don't want to replace the pulley just to have this happen again. Any ideas?

did you tighten it too tight or leave a spacer off that would cause it to rub on the arm behind it?

Look's like somehow I tightened it way too tight...damn. By the way guys, 5 seconds of the engine running with a tensioner pulley that is locked in place will cause enough heat to start melting and warping the pulley. Pretty insane.

Did you tourque it to spec, or just go till you thought it was good? I know you know this, but there is a reason why there are tourque specs, which need to be followed for certain things. Good luck with the new install.

Read my post up there. I torque down EVERY bolt to spec I possibly can.
