So, I hooked up my A/F guage before work today (yeah, it's one of those "blinky-blinky" ones.
At WOT, It's running pig rich. The 3rd from the left bar is lit. Should I wait till I get a S-AFC to lean it out or can I just up the boost a lil and still be safe?
Would hacking the aircan make a difference? All's I did to to it so far was rip off the snorkel thing.
Actually, I should just go take it off now and cut it up. I'm at work and have access to tools that would save me a lot of time.

Tuning with a blinky blinky a/f guage is not the greatest idea...our o2 sensors are not precise enough for serious tuning, even with the numerical LED style blah blah blah its in a million posts. What kind of turbo/what psi/what kind of boost control are you running, and what are your EGT's at WOT?

I agree. Wait for an SAFC and a data logger before touching the boost much. Definitely don't go over 15.

OK, yeah, I know everyones feelings about those guages but it's still better than guessing.
I remembered that I forgot to fix my boost leak (IC has a few small pin holes) and thats probably why it's running a little rich.
So, I cut the aircan up just leaving enough to hold the filter in place and it actually ran richer. DUH. Thats actually when I remembered the boost leak. Sensor seeing more air but it's just leaking out while I'm pumping more fuel in.
Looks like I'm gonna need to buy some stuff. So much for leaving it stock till springtime...

edit* For those that dun know. A/T, 14B, 5-speed cams, free mods, everything else stock.

<<DO NOT TUNE WITH THAT POS AIR/FUEL GAUGE OR U WILL FRY YOUR ECU LIKE I DID>>

I'm not using it to tune. I'm merely using it to get an idea what my 02's look like...
How exactly did you fry your ECU?????

yes how the hell did you fry an ECU tuning with the a/f? did you fry it because you hooked up the A/F guage wrong? (missed the 02 wire or ground?)

<<I installed afc and started tuning>>

Are you talking about S-AFC? You probably hooked THAT up wrong. I don't think a guage as simple as A/F would fry an ECU. Shit, it's just ONE wire tapped into 02 wire.

I ALMOST hooked my guage up wrong though. The harness diagram on VFAQ shows it as looking at the wire side and not at the plug side. I noticed the 3 slot on my harness was open so I double checked the diagram and noticed the 3 spot is for ABS which I don't have so thats why it was open.
