#3583, "stupid warning lights"

when my car is it idle and i am using no power options (lights off, aftermarket fogs off, radio off) my alternator and coolant warning lights come on to about 75% brightness. I am baffled by this. if i turn on the radio or the lights, it fades away almost comepletely. my engine temp is fine and i just replaced the alternator like 5 months ago. any ideas?

also, will a 2nd gen low spoiler fit our cars? and how hard is it to wire up the brake light on a spoiler if my 3rd brake light is currently on the back window?(i.e. no spoiler)

Not really sure why the warning lights are coming on. It may just be a drain in the electrical system which makes the ECU think there is an alternator problem. As long as the lights go away, you are okay emoji

And no, the 2g spoiler will not fit a 1st gen.

also check your coolant overflow level... the light will come on when this is dry

Be worried if most of your most of your warning lights come on at once, that would be the alternator. Check your batery cables and all things associated with the lights that are coming on (bad ground/wiring, belts slipping, coolant level etc.). If none of these is the problem, check your ECU caps.

read that post. voltage problems can result in all kinds of strange things. the original poster mentioned that his alternator had been replaced 5 months ago, and its possible that through the natural stretching of the belt and the cold weather, the energy output has dropped. its not neccisarily a scientific answer, but a good guess, and i agree.

:shhh: i do cocaine :/shhh:

I was talking to the guy I quoted who said something about the post being old.
I don't mind old threads coming back to life. It can sometimes be a "refresher".

yeah yours is probably the voltage regulator in the alternator..which lights are coming on? is it the ebrake light and the batt light? You can't just replace the volt reg. on our alternators ,y ouhave to replace the whole thing, so make sure you get it from a place that you can haggle it back from them if the problem doesn't go away, so you're not stuck w/2 good alternators

ON a side note, i had a bad alternator test good at autozone, so be weary
