#2437, "crap---mitsu screwed up, what to do?"

hey guys, mitsu "fixed" my oil light problem (they didnt', but what they did made me realize what the actual problem is, so cool) and they did me a "favor" by topping off my oil (with non-synthetic).

thing is, I specifically asked them not to touch the car without calling me first, and they said that was store policy anyways.

I'm going to bring my own oil and ask them nicely to just drain out the old and fill it with the good stuff again, and if they throw a fit i'm just gonna take down names, pay for their oil change, or change it myself in the parking lot, and write a letter to mitsu.

Question is, how much damage has been caused to the turbo and rings with a partial switch back to regular, assuming they only drove it a few miles to test it out? I'm assuming its marginal, but if its more than that, is there any way to see any damage they did do? I'm afraid I already know the answer to the 2nd one (no) but still....

also, who should the letter go to, assuming they are un-cooperative in fixing their mistake? (of course i'm not going to act like it was their fuckup, i'm going to try to act like it was an honest mistake and just see if they'll fix it for me...)

thanks guys!

matt

I moved the update to the pits, as its no longer a technical topic...

but moral of the story: Mitsubishi service deserves their name....

im going to say there was no damage done. as long as there was sufficient oil in the car while you were driving it.

its my understanding that you want to break an engine in with standard oil, and switch to synthetic after a thousand or so miles.

i really wouldnt worry about it.

it really is the principle of the situation though. so i understand why your upset.

I don't think it's a new engine though. Just the new turbo. Either way, Mitsu service is a travesty. It's almost like a caricature of what horrifically shitty service is supposed to be like.

It's running again shitheads.

So what was it? Mine's doing it now too emoji. And sometimes after I get on it, the battery, brake, and oil light come on(I think it's those three) for a second or so and the rpm's drop, sometimes the car even dies..

But yeah, at idle the oil light will come on, flickering at first then become steadily luminated if I idle long enough, but while driving, it doesn't come on emoji.

And while I was searching, I saw that your oil cap seemed to leak a little too, it's like our cars are twins lol.(but I'm sure alot of them do that, and nobody has to tell me the answer for this, that's a no brainer).

There are no cel's either. Well, sometimes if I'm driving out of town in 5th gear it will come on emoji. My GS did that too. But then it will go away after the usual next 3 start-ups or so.

Was it just your alternator? Or wire? Or what? I'll check the pressure here soon, but I just wanted to see what your problem was.

Well, I went to tuners and found this: http://dsmtuners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=47098&stc=1

I think I have a bad alternator AND light sender. Or at least the wire to it. The lights turning on and car dying after getting on it-alternator. Oil light flickering-light sender.

I'll check with the connections and oil pressure(although that seems fine with the factory "gauge."

Although I think I have this under control now, I still want to know what you did Vandy.

haha no prob, just got back from a cruise---

tony: yeah its your car--took me like a week to realize it, feel honored! (if it bugs you, i'll change it)

Before you replace the senders do a test on them. My problem was actually a short on the wire itself. I had to move the wire a bit to clear my downpipe and it was rubbing up against something. Just to be sure, i'd check your oil pressure using a cheap mechanical guage from like autozone, but its most surely either the wire or the sender itself. Both are a joke to fix, although finding the short in the wire can be a PITA.

PS--talk about reviving a post from the dead---I remember this from last fall, well before the accident

Did your car ever die though? Or drop in RPM's after getting on it? I dunno, I think my alternator is going out too.

replacing that little amount wouldnt do any damage at all, just drain it and refill it. its all about driving conditions and it doenst sound like it was cold, or abused or anything for serious amounts of time.

been awhile.

That happened to one of the Chicago guys at a local dealer. He complained and threw a fit only to be told to just leave and not come back. He tore out of the lot and had the manager calling his cell phone and complaining.

As far as the oil...eh no damage, synthetic is desined to be compatible with conventional oil.

Terry
