#12934, "Move the MAF downstream of turbo"

Is there any reason the MAF couldn't be moved downstream from the turbo. The main reason I ask is I really want to hear a little of the BOV.

I've been thinking that the MAF see's speed as much as or more than actual flow. So a more dense flow at the same speed would go largely unnoticed allowing for a very lean condition. I hope this is wrong and I can reroute the intake but I figure I'd better ask.

Yeah the GM MAF and Translator will run you about 400 total. 150 for the MAF, 200 for the translator and some money for a used VPC pipe. I have the setup on my car, well for a bit before it blew up, and it's a great DSM item. but if the only reason you would do it is to hear more BOV, then it isn't worth it, since that money could be used on much better things.

To have the car run, you must have the MAFT. The electronics for the GM MAF are very different than the DSM electronics and therefore you need the translator to make the GM MAF compatible. Without it you'd have no air sensor. It's a package deal, without both, you have nothing.

Why do I need the GM MAF?

On a side note me wife took the TSi to the convenience store today cause I had her truck. I think the A/C compressor shit out. Nasty grinding and metallic sound galore are now found, but only if the A/C is off. While on the car doesn't like to return to idle without dieing.

well in order to vent your BOV without side effects you have two paths that are "bolt on". One is the VPC which is about 7-800$ and the newest one is the GM MAF MAFT combo. The GM MAF allows and insane amount more air than the DSM MAS (even the 2g). You buy a 3 or 3.5" GM MAF and the translator that goes with it. It places the MAF after the turbo in the blow through setup and allows you to vent with no side effects. BAsically its the cheapest known way to effectively vent the BOV although its true purpose is more to allow an assload more air to be read and venting is a nice bonus
