well, i was changing my timing belt. ran into a few hiccups. nothing big. the typical i suppose. the crankshaft pulley bolt was seized on and we needed a two foot breaker bar on a 1/2 inch drive ratchet to break it loose. by the way, i was pushing it with my foot because i hurt my hands doing it. anyways. get that off, put the balance shaft belt back in. no biggie. torque the crankshaft pulley down, no problem. install the timing belt. eh, a little problem. the balance shaft didnt want to stay on tdc. oh ok, got it figured out. alright, the timing belt is on, lets tension it. ok. done. alright, we gotta wait 15 min. ok. well, what do you want to do? lets fill the coolant back up. can anyone guess what happened? anyone? yep, we fill about a gallon into the reserve and the freakin brand new waterpump starts leaking on the top. i run risk of pulling all that stuff back off just to try and reseal the gasket on the pos waterpump. i dont even know if that will work because the freakin block has residue from the old gasket that i cant get off. so anyone, any ideas? i thought about just siliconin around the leak to try and stop it. i dont know if that is a good idea though. please, no one say i have to remove this wretched timing belt again. i worked on this for about 17 hours before we noticed the coolant leak. i hate this car.....
edit:i will be goin at it again tomorrow afternoon/evening but i need to get it done tomorrow. i start a new job on monday and wont really have time to work on it cept for weekends. i dont want to park my silver bullet outside until i finish either. please help me!!

Take the belt off. It if leaks when not running, it will leak 10x that much when it is. Take the belt off, pull the pump, and scrape the original gasket off with a razer blade. It has to be a perfectly flat surface for the gasket to seal. Use some RTV to make sure it seals perfectly.
Sorry, you just have to do it or you will leak coolant forever. Now that you did it once, it's not that hard to do again!

yea i knew you were gonna say that. i couldnt get the old gasket off really. i was scraping it with a screwdriver and it wouldnt come off. we used rtv but i think it dried to much before it got put on which may also be part of the problem. the part that sucks the most is that the belt is PERFECT. we spent about 15 minutes getting that belt just right and now we have to take it off. i also dont have a vice to squeeze the auto tensioner down.

I've done that before by putting all of my weight on it on a piece of wood (basically standing on it) while a friend put a pin through the hole. It is a pain to do, but it works.

Hell no that shit didnt work for me lol .Maybe I'm to skinny Hey just buy a "C clamp" There are so cheap and there portable. It worked like a charm. I tore my t-belt down twice and out it together faster and faster everytime. Good luck
well, im done now! i got everything finished up tonight at about 3 AM and have some people to thank. i would like to thank greg(magicalevil) for helping me at the crib. he has done it before so it made it a little easier; jeff(jeff_99gs) for the telephone tech support; and catalina(my g/f) for being understanding during this weekend of trials and tribulations. i had some problems early on, but after we got that water pump sealed, we had more problems. first i couldnt get the lower timing cover to completely close and the power steering pulley was rubbing against it. i had to fight to find tdc to put the timing belt back on, again....we lost a bolt for about 10 minutes, we couldnt get a c clamp to work to compress the auto tensioner but we got a vice for 14 bucks. the greatest part of all, we got the timing belt and all the acc belts tensioned correctly the first time by sheer guessing and when we started that puppy up, no squeaks at all. she purrs like a kitten. runs a little cooler too, i say that was the crappy dirty yucky radiator water that we drained out. it is black. we have pics to of yesterday before our waterpump fiasco. no pics of the first starting or todays finishing up. i would have pissed my pants on camera. we took it for a test drive(without plates...) and she boosts hard. very wonderful!!! oh yeah, i removed pretty much the whole rear interier while we were waiting for the gasket stuff to set. weight reduction. i love my car again!
ps. there is a little smoke coming from near the radiator fill cap. i am assuming that it is fluid burning off the block that was spilled. it wasnt doing it very much when we got back from the drive but you could still see it a little. my temp guage was cooler than normal so i dont think it is burning it or leaking or anything. hopefully....
