My 98 has 112k on it with no signs and I haven't heard of too many 98 or 99's doing it. My car was actually produced in November of '97, which follows his reasoning of the new design past 5/01/97.

I don't know, just to get something going in here, post up when your car was produced, if it's walked, and how many miles are on it. You can check your production date by the sticker in the driver's door jam.

Another crankwalk theory...

1997 GS-T
Produced November 1996
Walked twice

1. At 46,000 miles - replaced crank
2. At 58,000 miles (10 months later) - replaced shortblock/crank

Now it's at 130,000 miles (3 Years later).

Suprisingly, the 2 crankwalks were the only issues EVER with the car. Nothing else has been touched except for timing belt and the normal maintenance things.

Adding mine anyways, even though its a 95.

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX

Crankwalked at 86k miles on the previous owner. New shortblock installed.

Currently at just over 117k with no signs of problems.

It has been beat on most of it's life, especially with the ricers at overboost.com using it as a project car, and previous owner loved to push it.

'95 GSX - Big16G ~ Leaks, but atleast it runs.

My '97 Spyder has never had crankwalk and has no signs of it at all at 72k miles. It is just one of those things. You hear success stories and horror stories. Some cars are just unlucky.

My 7 bolt (95 TSI AWD) had a 165k on it before i spun a bearing. After well pulled it apart and check for play, there wasn't any. I even had soem of the symptoms to suggest CW, but turns out ti was not the case.

I have 2 early build date (summer/fall) '94 7-bolts:

1995 GSX - 130,000+ miles, not a sign of crankwalk to date

1995 TSi AWD - 171,000+ miles, again not a sign of crankwalk (and still pulls very hard for that matter (on the stock t-25!)

Both cars have the original motors, and both are 5 speeds.

'95 GSX - New motor/turbo going in...
'95 TSi AWD - For sale...buy me!
'03.5 MazdaSpeed Protege - Stock daily driver
'97 CBR 600 - Purple is a real man's color

crankwalk caused by incorrectly made crankshafts at the factory. not using mitsu oil filters added to the problem.
