i just bought a valve cover gasket "set" and it came with the valve cover gasket, 4 spark plug gaskets and 1 cam shaft gasket. my question is, is there supposed to be 2 cam shaft gaskets? i know the haynes manual talks about only 1 and the VFAQ talks about only 1 but the guy at autozone said that i'll need two? so which is it one or two? thanks guys!

well the computer at autozone also said that it required two. and since it is DOHC it got me thinking that it probably would have two but i don't know? also the guy at autozone and the box the gasket came in said not to use any kind of chemicals, such as RTV sealant, to put the gasket on, is that right? don't know what the stock gasket is made of but this one is a rubber gasket.

There is no camshaft gasket. Are you talking about the little half moon looking rubber piece? That is not for the camshafts, and there is only one of those. The camshaft "gaskets" are built into the valve cover gasket.
1. (1)Valve Cover Gasket 2. (4)Spark Plug Gaskets 3. (1)Rubber Half Moon piece. (forgot the actual name)
That is it. Use RTV on the cover side of the gasket (the side with the round part). No RTV on the flat part of the gasket (the head side).

thanks jeff your the master! anyway RTV is the same as what some people might refer to gasket sealant isn't it? just wondering cause the write-up on dsmtalk says to put a thin layer of "gasket sealant" on the head side?

ok i think i'm understanding everything now. so i only put RTV on the valve cover side right? just wanna make that clear cause DSMtalk does say head side
