#11369, "Spark Plug/Bov question?"

ok i got the type S on and everything working good but about a week or two the car started to feel hesitant or like it was missing at WOT. finally it just started running like ass and i tried everything i could think of to see what it was but didn't check the spark plugs cause i just changed them. well i took the car to a mechanic and they said it was my plugs and wires and they changed them and now the car runs great again. i put the stock piping on before this to see if it might be the aftermarket stuff causing it but obviously it wasn't. but my question is since the Type S holds more boost and makes it spike to around 20PSI would that make the spark plugs/wires go bad that fast? or was it just time for new wires since i have no clue when they've been replaced. car has almost 60kmiles. my other question is if i put the Type S back on is it ok to run around with it spiking like that for a week or two till i get a boost controller?

you shouldnt be spiking with a t25, your problem lies with th ewastegate and the turbo if your t25 spikes that high. the type s wont effect boost amounts.

20psi on a t25 shouldnt destroy your engine but your just blowing aot of hot air and the turbo is WAY past its effeciency

well it's more around 18psi. and does the adjustment screw on the BOV matter if you just have the one vacum hose hooked up?

Woah Woah Woah. If you think a BOV is making you spike to 20psi you need to sell your car and buy an NT emoji

It's not the BOV, its the user. Look somewhere else. What kind of boost controller?

Woah I just read the end of your post. Take the BOV off till you get a boost controller. Or better yet, fork over the $45 for a boost controller.

(I'm holding back on a rant, so excuse me)

matt, the bov only allows you to run higher boost levels without pressure leaking like on the stock one. The adjustment screw on top has nothing to do with boost levels only how hard or soft the bov opens. buy a hallmann and set your boost at 15 for as long as you have the t25.

ok well everywhere i've read about getting aftermarket BOV's,people have said that boost starts hitting around 18-20psi or so. mabey spiking isn't what i'm doing and it's just hitting 18 and falling back down real fast to 16 because it's a T-25.

I had this same problem...get a decent boost controller and it goes away

Vandy

*EDIT* Couldn't the BOV cause this spike simply because it was always there, but the stocker just leaked it out before the boost guage could read it? I'm reaching here, but i'm curious because I know a BOV won't do this, but when I did my UICP/BOV install i had the same problem. The larger boost could be from the aftermarket UICP, no?

i dont know about the bov leaking out 2 psi, that sounds like a lot for a bov to leak out or hold in during a spike. as for the uicp, i figure it only provides faster air flow so that the air is getting where it needs to go quicker, which would provide a little bit of performance, but not a whole crapload. i may be wrong.

The BOV doesn't leak from 18 down to 16. The t-25 is simply too small to hold 18 through the upper rpm range and subsequerntly drops down to 16 or lower once you approach redline.

It's running again shitheads.

ok i know all of that and how the the T-25 doesnt' hold power in higher rpms and bov's don't cause spiking but in the case of the leaky 2g BOV, switching over to an aftermarket one does, in a way, make it "spike". all i was asking is if the car does hit 18-20 psi every now and then, but just basically when at WOT, will it hurt anything to bad or like i was trying to ask in the first post, burn up spark plugs fast? i wouldn't have wondered this if the spark plugs hadn't been changed recently and about 2 weeks after i put the BOV on they went bad. i guess it was just time to get new wires anyways though.

A completely STOCK car (T-25 and stock BOV) will only make around 12 psi. Just upgrading the BOV won't do anything for boost levels. After adding a MBC, the STOCK BOV will start leaking around 14.5 psi if you turn up the boost. THIS is when you will need an upgraded BOV.
The only way you'll see spikes if there is no MBC, is if there a problem with the BCS. Or a vacuum hose slipped off somewhere or is leaking.
