#11048, "installed new downpipe"

well i recently picked up a downpipe that eliminates the cat. i put it on today, and damn it sounds like shit! I can definetly feel the power gain, but man, i cant take the sound. My car sounds like a honda.

I like the gain in power, but the lawnmower sound isnt worth the performance. So, here are my two options everyone, tell me what you think i should do.

1. keep the downpipe that eliminates the cat and install the stock exhaust. Im thinking this will sound much quiter, and maybe not so raspy?? i also figured having no cat would yield more power than a 3 cat back.

2. Sell the downpipe and buy a bushur downpipe and high flow cat.

I hear RRE's exhausts are pretty good too, and they have the cat/testpipe option as well..just a matter of which catback you have, really

keep us posted, i'm about to buy a similar downpipe..

Good luck!

IT is not your dp it is your exhaust that makes the sound...your DP only enhances it. Nothing wrong with the ebay DP...your only real prob is that you don't have a CAT.

you could always have a "glass-pack" muffler put in somewhere around where the cat would normally be. They'll deaden the sound a little but are still straight through and won't rob you of any power.

I don't have a cat and it sounds great. Ebay = crap. I hope we all learned a lesson here today.

Exactly...
Ive got the Apexi downpipe without a cat and a Apexi N1 catback. It sounds great. Not raspy at all. I love the way it sounds.

well i dont see how a downpipe could make it sound bad, i agree with rome that its the exhaust that makes the sound. anyway, i stopped by jeff and matt's today and they both said it sounds normal, so i guess i was over reacting. BUT, it is just way too loud for me.

Im buying a bushur downpipe with high flow cat just because having no cat is too loud for me. If anyone wants this downpipe that eliminates the cat its for sale.

your over reacting. my exhaust actually sounded deeper. take your 3in gaskeet between the downpipe and the exhaust and put the stock on e in its place. the stock gaskett has less of an opening and actually make the exhaust sound like its camming. (atleast my car does.) what kind of exhaust are you running? and the ebay downpipe is actually good quality. my friend put one on his auto gst with a stock catback exhaust and his car can keep up with me fairly well

seriously...a pipe is a pipe. IF the welds or quality was bad, then maybe i would agree with the ebay is crap theory. MOst ebay axhaust comapany's use the same 304 SUS sTaniless steel that your favortie exhaust company uses. If you like paying for name then be my guess.

Your car should not be loud untill you really get on it. IF I were you after thinking about it some more, i would just have a glass pack welded on either the cat back and/or dp. THis will reduce the noise level alot and make for easier daily driving.

PS I got the Apexi for two reason... 1.It has a Silencer and 2. Ebay doesn't sell SS exhaust for DSM AWD vehicles.

WTF... Yah the Ebay Dp is just a pipe. It has one bend and that is pretty much it. These Downpipes a mass produced. I don't think the ebay DP sux at all. I have it and it sounds perfectly normal. What muffler do you have maybe? When I think about it... My DP was real loud when I first installed it and then the noise went away a little bit or maybe I got used to it. Either way I think that the buscher DP won't be any quieter in anyway. I have the straight pipe as well. The only time my car is real loud is when I am on at 3000rpms or higher. Don't sell it, it isnt worth it.

I just tuned my car last week at 14psi on the Evo 16g and its sick fast. Sooo fast... I ordered a clutch and getting the LSD insert and I am going crush 420A real soon.

Vandy.. look at my sig bro.. thats a FMIC.

I never have gotten boost creep when I got my 2g 02 Housing ported professional 2.5' Also when I bought my 16g turbo, I asked Slowboyracing to have it ported and 34mm flapper installed with it.

I have done every mod on the RRE chart or any 2g upgrade chart path... now just need to do the Clutch and BM insert mod which I will do during the summer along with Timing belt change.
