I just bought a 98 eclipse gs-t on saturday and im in the process of doing a new head gasket, timing belt and water pump. My question is shuold i replace the auto tensioner? Im talking about the tensioner with the plunger in it. The car has 98,000 miles. thanks for the help. -brian

Yes. Replace everything while you are doing it. Don't skimp this time around since you won't have to do it for another 70k miles.

order a set of arp studs, they are worth the money, and make sure to get the head milled, get new everything while your in there. if you have the cash go to the trader and see about a set of cams, they are worth it, even with stock gears, laters
