#10467, "Need Help understanding A/F mixture, and what is acceptible"

I had it in my mind that 11:1 was a leaner mixture than 12:1 on the A/F ratio. I was just told on another board that when I'm running from 12.5 down to 11.5 I am running richer. Is this true?

Also, what is the acceptible range to run your A/F ratio on the 4G63. What is my target A/F ratio to have?

I belive 14;7 is the perfect mixture, and as the number increases (16.2, 17.6, 19.4)that is a lean reading, and as the number decreases (14.3, 13.8, 13.2)that is a rich reading. And of course at idle the reading will/should be constantly changing and under WOT a good reading would be 13;0 or richer. Anything below that might be to lean.

yeah its Air / Fuel so if the number gets larger you have more air to fuel, hence, leaner

Can anybody confirm an optimal A/F ratio?

I dont' think there is an "optimal" air fuel, simply because i'm pretty sure it differs by compression (in NA cars). I think 14.7 is correct for like 8:1 compression, though. NOt sure how to do it with a turbo, if compression matters, boost, or whatnot

If you don't have a wideband o2 sensor, don't tune with the Air Fuel ratio. The stock sensor is not nearly accurate enough to be used to properly tune the car.

1st gens should have the o2s around .92, and 2Gs should be slightly higher at around .96. (conservatively tuned). But again, tune using timing advance and knock.

but even so, for arguments sake, I wonder what the proper a/f ratio is for our cars...
