This is more curiosity as I've never ridden a motorcycle, and even though I'd like to get one, it definitely won't happen for many years. Well, what's involved license wise with motorcycles? I know there's a motorcycle license, but do need it before u ever touch a bike? Can you ride a bike under any circumstances with just a regular license? such as in a parking lot or whatnot, practicing. I'm sure theres some sort of lerners permit too. And how would a road test work, does the instructor ride along on another bike?
Was just sittin at work and got a little curious, any info would be cool.
I'll look online too, but figured i'd ask to avoid the technical wording on any dmv sites.

this is how it goes in CT- you get a motorcycle learners permit (you need a valid drivers license to obtain the actual motorcyle license). With it you cant ride with anyone else on your bike, and you can only ride within certain times (like you cant ride late at nightor on the highway etc.). You then schedule the "road test". On the road test, your basically in the dmv's parking lot and they setup cones and you have to prove you can handle the bike- maneuver around the cones, take a sharp turn, etc. Thats how they base it on in CT

the insurance on my bike is only about 50 bucks a month. i dont have full coverage though. maybe dumb, but im poor.
in indiana, you take the test and get your permit, then you have to go take the road test to prove you can handle the bike. we have limitations on when you can ride, but i dont follow them.
