Now I want one. Shit. I dont know what the hell I want to do about my car situation now. I'm looking at a modded 98 GSX for $13,000 or now I'm thinking about an EVO for like 22-25. I wonder how bad the insurance on EVOs is... I've heard it's pretty bad. The GSX is nice and all, but the EVO handles so well, and is so much newer. Shit, I hate decisions like this.

I rode shotgun in my friends evo with just exhaust at the track... The launch scared the hell out of me... I was absolutely amazed by the car... But I have been planning on getting one after college for a long time now.

Wow that's crazy I have a 280Z and I'm paying like 300 bux for 6 months, but it is a 30 year old car.

Man 13000 for a GSX? That's a lot in my area there are GSXs everywhere no one wants them probably because they don't handle that well and eat up more gas. That GSX better have some damn good mods or low miles I can get one for around 5k here.

for some reason my Geico insurance of my '93 TSI AWD is exactly the same as it was for my '95 RS (clean record, 23 yrs old). My explanation is that Geico just wants your money and doesn't care.

Is there any year in particular for the EVOs that I should avoid? I've heard that they get a little better each year, but I could pick up a 2003 for under $25,000, and the newer ones will obviously be more. Are there any problems with the 2003s?

The way I see it, I can get a longer term long on a newer car like an EVO, and in the end, they payment wouldnt be a whole lot more than the eclipse with a 3 year loan. Plus if I got the EVO, i could get rid of the eclipse, but if I got the GSX, I would keep my 2GNT as a backup. It would be really nice to have a newer vehicle.

My friend with an EVO told me that 2003's were a problematic year compared to the others. Just what he said, I dunno how true it is.

'03's seem to be hit and miss compared to later years. I happened to get a good one, and I don't personally know anyone that got a 'bad' one. If I were going to buy a used one I'd definately get an '05 since they have the limited slip front diff.

I would say that if you can, avoid the '03's for a couple reasons, and try and get an '05. For one, the '03's had the smaller hot side (2005's come stock with the 10.5cm). So either an '04 or '05, but preferably an '05. When I get one, it will be a IX MR emoji

I got quoted less for an 05 Evo(684) than a 99 GSX (890). Evo may be AWD turbo but it is still a turbo 4 door family car by my company's standards(farmers), while a gsx is a turbo 2 door sports coupe.

maybe they were quoting you for a regular evo, and dint know the difference. theres no way it could be that cheap. how old are you?

yeah right. I'm 32yrs old, a few minor blemishes on my record, have a multi-car discount on my policy and I'm still paying $1198/yr.
With the amount of high speed crashes and Evo's totalled by wreckless driving, there's no way they could consider it a "family car" through any carrier... I think they quoted you for a reg Lancer.
How could they possibly quote you less for a car that has 3x the value of a 99GSX????

Right. Go ahead and get that policy, and then freak out when they raise it once you give them the vin. When I got my Evo back in '03 I was paying around $425/half. Nothing with respect to the policy has changed, but I'm paying just under $600/half now. The insurance industry figured it out pretty quickly and raised rates. Hell, some guys have reported 30% rate increases this year without any accidents or tickets. Many, many people are quoted rates for a regular lancer.
