i've been trying to fix this for waaay to long now and it seems like no one can help me. my problem:

i've got dsl and a router hooked up, the netgear WGT624v3. i do not use a pppoe.
i hook it up the way it's supposed to be, etc. run the wizard and for some reason it detects a pppoe account, but i can get around that.
after getting into the setting and i've tried multiple things, i try to have it get the ip/sub/gateway and dns dynamically but that doesn't seem to be working. the numbers it's coming back with are not like i had before. and i've tried to ping them and that doesn't work either. i've tried doing 'ipconfig/all' and putting those numbers it but with no avail. sometimes it just comes back as 0.0.0.0 when trying to get it dynamically.

it's really pissing me off and i wish i could get another setup but i don't have the money right now. i did have this running before but for some reason it has stopped and i can't get it to work now. and i have tried the reset button on the back.

Who is your DSL provider? Most use some type of PPP authentication.

So if you are using DSL then you are most likely supposed to use PPPoE. You say that you dont, but by the rest of your post you just might have used it and not known. Have you ever had the connection without a router? Call you isp and find out.

If you do have PPPoE, there is a un/pw that they use for authentication. Check the Stay alive option and it will recheck your connection after a set amount of time.

Now when you connect using DHCP, what are the numbers it assigns? I do not know of any router that will assign Auto IP addy's on the WAN side of the router. They are most likely good.

You are set DHCP on the lan side right? What is your comp's IP?

I would set the WAN to dhcp, power cycle the router (unplug from power/replug), and ipconfig /release and then /renew...

yes i've got the connection with the modem itself and have had it for years. the router did work for about 3 months.

from the time i got the modem i have no had to use a name/password, only on email. it is set up for DHCP, i have tried the power cycle thing many times...to no go.

the option it says is to get the ip/dns dynamicly from the isp, but it's not working. and the numbers it comes back with i cannot ping.

visit dslreports.com and go to their bellsouth forum for where you are located. they will school you proper.

bellsouth uses pppoe. sounds like your netgear forgot its config or something. happens more often than you know.

Find out the MAC address you registered with, and change the MAC on the router to match the original address. There is usually an option in routers called "MAC cloning" that you need to enable. If you have no idea what the registered MAC is, you need to call your DSL provider and either ask for the MAC they're looking for, or have them reset it because you "got a new computer".

Your DSL provider should be able to answer this question in its entirety though, no matter what the problem is.

Also, try going to the router's web interface... usually http://192.168.1.1 or similar. Google for the correct IP and password for your router. There will be a PPoE setting in there.
