#5933, "Who here has just gotten up and left for another area for work?"

Just curious who has had to get up and move to another part of the country for work. I am almost 24 and have lived in the same city my whole life. It's super expensive to live around here and now that my owners are selling our dealership, I might need another job. Figure this might be a good opportunity to move to another area and see other parts of the country. Got a lot of friends and family here so it's a hard move but I know people do it all the time (Jeff99gs moved to Cali like it was nothing months ago from here, but he also got lucky to live w/ a fellow 2gnt'er for awhile) I still have a couple options here for work but I'm still trying to buy a place and I don't see the cost of living changing much here. end of rant cause I doubt anything will happen out of this but I'm starting to freak out about work.

I think Flyinesi just picked up and moved to AZ a few months ago.

That's definately a big move to make. I've been in the same city my whole life as well, and I don't know if I could do it or not. It'd definately be different. You could try it and if you don't like it, just move back.

Might be doing that if I don't get this job OR if I have a break between jobs. I get free rooms at a couple casino's in Atlantic City and might live there during the week and come home on weekends. I know moving is totally different but this way I wouldn't be signing any leases or anything. I have a friend that does this now and when he isn't gambling he drives an hour to Philly or other local areas to hang out and in my case, check out different areas. I'm a gambling machine though.

hard one bro...but i doubt many parts of the country or world for that case are more expensive than CA. just read a newspaper article, for the money of an appartment here you can buy a huge residence in Paris or Monaco...good luck man!

Yep, I've lived in the same city all my life and worked at the same place for 10 years, now that I'm getting older I really feel like I've missed out out on a lot by playing it safe and getting into too much of a comfort zone.

If you're even thinking about it now, you are ready to do it. This is the pefect time of your life to broaden your horizons, when your obligations are low.

Me, I went from Southern Ontario, Canada to Southern California. Only knew one person here. Definitely worth it for me...

Sounds tempting, especially since I've been trying to meet every since I heard goods things from Matt. I have no excuse not to go to the shootout though so I hope to meet a lot of you guys there. I do need a vacation though, especially since I don't get my vacation anymore (woulda earned it June 1 but we won't be in business that long)

Dude. Come on out to the Shootout, Dave. If you like DSMs and drinking, you just can't beat it. As long as you've been on 2GNT, you'll be surprised how much this place changes once you've watched Dino giggle like a six year old at blowing smoke into dryer vent intakes, Derek keep a completely straight face at 1am, drunk off his ass and trouble shooting something with the stutter box in the hotel parking lot, and had a shot with a DSMer you don't even know on "the other side of the hotel."

Back on to your original question, as an Army Brat, I get the itch to move about every six months to a year. This August will make five years I've been in Phoenix and, while I consider Phoenix home, I'm actually thinking about up and moving within a year myself. Some people know where, but I've yet to make up my mind.

Just pack up and go, man. So long as you don't burn bridges, you can always go back.

Sounds good except I don't drink. Already used to being around drunk people so it doesn't bother me.

I moved to Houston from San Antonio. Only about 180-200 miles away, but two completely different backgrounds & atmospheres.

After a little over 2 years, I got sick of it and moved back. I miss it every once in a while, though.

Leave man....at your age you should never set boundrys.

I have left an area many times for work and "just because" reasons.

The short story

I grew up in upstate NY (Oswego) in a very small town, My gf at the time had our first kid at 16, I quit school and worked locally for the family biz (construction co) till 18.

Age 18 I worked in NYC to renovate apartment buildings for 6 weeks at a time making 1k cash a week going back home for Three days then doing it all over again. After a year I made enough to try a new area and rid myself of the small town gossip mill(small towns suck).

Age 19, I knew some distant family in North Carolina, I moved my GF and son down to Winston Salem and went right to work at Lee Jeans.Had another kid and was having a great time for a year. some random guy shot behind my apartment... Great time over, time to move.

Age 20 3 Days after shooting.. was back in Oswego NY. Stayed for about
8 months working construction. Most of my family moved to Rochester for work. (lol the big city)

Age 20 Moved to big city (Rochester) Did random construction then got a job at Kodak. Worked with them 2 years got laid-off. Went to work for a local construction co for 3 more years ...the city sucks.

Age 25 left big city in upstate NY near family and friends with whatever I could fit in a Grand Prix for the promise of union work in NJ and escape from that cess pool of a city. It payed off pretty well... in a years time I bought my own house started two business's and was working my ass off and was doing rather well even had time to have a hobby (my 2gnt) emoji.

5 months ago Age 31 I did it again though. (NJ sucks on many different levels) I did plan the move though for about 6 months .....but I am glad I did. Sold my house and I had no real promise of work in Ohio but made the move anyways...I live in a sweet ass townhouse nothing to fix or worry about.. have two great jobs one F/T One P/T and the way things are going I am going to be able toy with the 2gnt again and actually do something with my CF biz on a broader level moving it from hobby to actually making some decent money emoji
