Well driving to work three days ago my cousin was pulled over for his tinted windows. He's had them on for a year and this is the first time he's ever had a problem. I figured it was bad luck, and his tints aren't that dark.

Then driving to Fox lake tonight I was pulled over for my tints, which are even lighter than his. He got a citation but I made it off with a warning. Not sure if this was just a coincidence or if the police are going to try enforcing the tint laws.

The thing I don't get is how they can enforce it when new cars can be sold with tinted windows from the factory. The dodge dealership near me has quite a few cars on the lot with tinted windows, old and new.

I dunno, either way it sucks, and watch out if you live in the area..

I am from Plainfield/Joliet area. NO TINT is legal in IL unless the car is older than 1981. Its possible they changed the year allowable because they were trying to eliminate that. A dealer can sell any car with tinted windows. Its legal to tint the windows, its legal to sell tinted windows. It is illegal to drive with tinted windows.

You can have the rear window tinted and the corner one but not the passenger or drivers window tinted.

Certain towns crack down at different times of the year on this..... Knock on wood Plainfield has not hit my G/F for them. My Silver eclipse only comes out on weekend in sunny weather so getting caught in that is rare if not close to impossible.

Sorry to hear you got caught. Its only been illegal for the past 20years. Its a game you play so dont cry if you do get caught. Everyone here in IL knows its illegal.

Terry

Exactly why I don't tint mine.... cops stare enough as is. Well, that and the cost of getting the tinting done correctly is a small deterrent also.

I recently bought a car that had tint windows. The week before Thanksgiving I was driving down the highway and there was an abnormally high count of cops patrolling the highway (I would guess a cop every mile or two for about 15 to 20 miles) and I got pulled over for the soul purpose of having tint windows. I got a fix it ticket, I could care less about having tint windows, but it's a kick in the balls when I didn't tint them and I have to go though the hassle of removing it, going to police station for inspection and then sending the signed off ticket in. Fucking waste of my time, just because one cop was board and not intelligent enough to find a stretch of road that wasn't over patrolled.

Yeah, I just think its a bit ridiculous how they can be sold legally. Thats like selling a car with a pound of coke hidden in the trunk. You didn't put it there, but you're responsible for breaking the law now. I know thats stupidly extreme, and I'm not crying, I knew it was illegal when I had it done, just trying to figure out if the police around here are making a push on it or not. Could just be the new year, they're trying to be "better" police officers.... Cause we all know how tinted windows are a threat to society at large.

Oh well, knock on wood, I got off with a warning, hopefully I can last until summer when I'm going to be trading mine in for a GST emoji Cause I'm in love with the way my eclipse looks with the tints.

Wow....legal here is 30% i believe. But just about everyone has 20, i've never heard of anyone around here getting busted for it.

Lucky...its illegal here because Chicago cops were worried about the danger of walking up to a car with tinted windows while the suspect could have a weapon drawn and waiting for the officer to get close. Thus they made having the front drivers/passengers door windows tinted completely illegal... pretty gay, thank you criminals.

sorry old thread but i figured i'd bring it up, my suspicions were confirmed, they're definitely cracking down on it.

6 months not a single incident (not pulled over once), January 2006, I've been pulled over 4 1/2 times. The half time was when the cop just pulled up beside me until I rolled my window down and yelled at me to take my tints off or I'd get a ticket. 3 times for tints (and 3 verbal warnings, I guess I'm good at playing dumb), and 1 speeding ticket (sigh, just a bad month for me).

I haven't taken them off because I'm in love with them and I'm probably selling the car soon, so I don't feel like doing it right now, not to mention it died the other day, had to buy a new fuel pump.... psh, thanks dsm emoji

I think I might save up and buy a jetta, at least it probably won't break down on me every other week.

anyways....be careful, i think the cops are tryin to stock up their tickets early this year
