#5910, "Shit, found a great deal on a car. What should I do?!"

Great deal, but I don't know if I want it or not. I've been looking for a 2GB GSX or Tsi AWD. Ever since I drove that 92 Talon Tsi AWD, I've wanted one, but a 2G. So since my transmission is shot, I've been looking for an AWD DSM. Well then my uncle came along and offered to sell me his car....

2003 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro. Automatic. Red. 40k miles. He said he would sell it to me for $12,000. The blue book is a little over $20k. It's a great deal. He's a millionaire and his wife want a new car, so he just wants to get rid of it, and he's not real concerned with getting his money back. Always serviced at Audi.

The problem is, I want to go fast. Second problem is that I hate automatics. I really want an AWD DSM, but Audis are so damn nice, and this is such a good deal. I don't think buying it and selling it is an option... that would be an asshole move on my part. What would you guys do?

Agreed. I'd buy the car, since it's such an amazing deal but since it's out of warranty, or close to being out of warranty, I wouldn't keep it long. Definately keep track of the kbb and sell it once it gets close to that ammount.

Buy it for 12, then turn right around sell it for $15K-$18K. If it books at $20K you should get tht out of it and that would increase you chances of getting a REAL nice 2gb AWD.

well the problem with buying it and reselling it is that if he's giving me a good deal on it to help me out, i don't want it to be a slap in the face when i turn around and sell it to make money. i think i might talk to him and ask how he would feel if I found something else in a while and wanted to trade it in. If he says he's giving me a good price to help me out, I don't think I'll get it. But he is rich and may just want to get rid of it, and if that's the case I'm pretty sure I'm gonna grab it and drive it for a while.

If buying it from him and immediately reselling it is out of the question, then I would take your 12 grand and save it for something that you really want. You should be able to find a great AWD 2G for that kind of money.

well i could drive it for 6 months or something and then get rid of ot, but yeah I think I'd rather have something fast. maybe I could get a cheap GSX with a blown engine or something, and the A4 could be my daily driver. I dunno, I havesometime to thinkaboutmy options since I'mgetting my car fixed.

and you would think I could find a good AWD 2G for that, but they arent that easy to come by. I want one that is close to stock, and relatively low miles. The closest to that I have found is a 98 with 40,000 miles and an asking price of $13,000.

Very true. I love my WRX, but every time I see a stock late 2G GSX I want to pull the guy over and trade cars. They certainly are gems if you can find a stock one in good shape.

in september i paid $14k for a 99 gsx w/ 28,000 miles, bone stock, so you might be able to talk them down a bit.

Look up the Nada value, eff the kbb value. they list lowest price to expect, average price and highest price.

*i just quickly looked, a 98 w/ 40k is listed at $9,925, 11,375, and 12,275 (l,a,h)

just keep looking if you really want a 2g awd. Don't settle, it only took about 2 months for me to find mine.

good luck, you won't regret it. I sure as hell don't.

Seriously buy the Audi. It will be alot faster than you think. The torque on those are just incredible and the AWD is great! My friend has one and I love the car. They are definately expensive cars to maintain because all work must be done at an Audi dealer. Keep it and roll with it for a year. You will love the car and it's definately a nice status symbol. The chicks will love it hahaha!!!

i drove it for a couple weekends, and I didnt think it was fast. my friend's bone stock Scion TC kept up with it.

but anyways, he realized how much it's worth and said he couldnt sell it for $12k, so the search for the GSX continues. I'd rather be the guy in the everyday car whooping on sports cars than the guy in the slow expensive car. So if anyone finds a good 2Gb GSX or Tsi AWD, Lemme know.

I really think you need to take your time finding a car. I wanted a VR4 ever since I rode in my friends about 5 years ago. Getting back in the turbo 2gnt wasn't gonna cut it. I still loved the 2gnt but I realized that I really wanted a VR4 but it took forever to find the right one. I sorta rushed into mine only cause I had no car at the time and was driving around a 96 Grand Prix, but I got a much better deal then anything else I could find. Only thing I wish I waited on is possibly a different color. meh

I don't know about a lot of people but to me Audi's are damn sexy and have some nice power to back it up. If I were you, i'd buy that car from your uncle and drive it without even thinking twice. Then like you said, trade it in while there is still some value in it to get what you really want, a 99gsx. But then again, you might fall in love with the audi and never trade it in. Have you ever thought about that?

i planned on getting it, but I posted above that he decided not to sell it for that much after he looked up the value of it. He realized how much it was worth. Oh well.
