#5899, "i hate aluminum, my car, haynes, and my torque wrench"

Why do bolts have to break when I try to properly torque them down with a snap-on torque wrench?

Because they're rated in inch pounds, not foot pounds emoji

Ha, made that mistake once without breaking a bolt. I honestly thought I had to torque a water pump bolt to 120ft-lbs. This bolt was 15 ft-lbs. I double checked.

80 percent of the force applyed to a bolt as it enters a thread is taken up by friction, use a thread lubercant like med strength loctight and it shouldn't happen... although it is a dsm.

Have the snap on man send in your torque wrench to have it calibrated, albeit I highly doubt its out of calibration enough to overtorque bolts enough to snap them. I have mine sent in 2 times a year.
