#45972, "Snow Day 2011"

For the first time in 16 years, I have a snow day. I work for Michigan State University, and they actually canceled classes. Craziness. The General Motor plants in Lansing closed too. Whats even crazier is I look outside and it doesn't even look that bad. I've got a pretty sizable drift in front of my garage, but it's nothing I can't handle.

So how are you guys surviving the "great" snow storm of the 21st century?

I'm going to drive to work in the 25* weather. Later this afternoon I will enjoy the rain and 40* high. Repeat for tomorrow.

Never. I have no desire to live up north where it snows that much. I'd rather deal with hurricanes.

They cancelled our clinic too, and I'm right outside of Detroit. Doesn't look too bad out my window, but there's a lot more snow than what I've seen before. The winds were pretty high though.

Started new job this morning at 7 and got off work early today @11 due to power outage area my crew was supposed to work, shift is 7 to 7pm.I have to call in tonight to see if the machines are working, if there's work in the morning. Well, I did get paid for the 4hours I was there but didnt work due to the power. My work week is 12 hr shifts two on two off every other weekend. Work load is very steady which is good. Hopefully there will be work tommorrow but weekends are open, if I'll have an extra day with my weekend off but next weekend three 12hr shift in a row. total hours are vary one week is 36 another is 42 an a half, set hours. Its from a temp service but this is long term not short term like other places.

Gotta love this set schedule I have, ####.

when does that happen?

besides, if i lose power due to the ice storm, i have no heat, running water, or xbox during that time. would rather be sweaty than freezing imo.

Anytime there is a Hurricane. I pick that as my poison instead of ice and snow. When Hurricane Gustav came through I had no hot water for a week. I slept in an apartment with the windows open when it was 90° outside with the ridiculous humidity that comes with that much rain. I was at work the day after doing damage assessment in a building with no air conditioning. Once we got the generator stabilized, I was able to power on enough equipment to get accounting up and running. I then got to drive to stores with no power to start unloading product out of freezers and coolers in the dark to feed the three stores with power.

that sounds horrible. but, if i lose power due to ice and snow, no heat, no water, cant leave home unless you have a truck and even then, 20 foot snow drifts will prevent you from moving. idk, dealing with heat would be easier, but i still live up here cause i like the snow sometimes. let me know how easy it is to sled in that desert you call home. :-D

Pretty easy. You just do it behind a boat or behind a four wheeler in your front yard after it rains.

Damn skippy. I was just thinking about how much fun I had watching Hurricane Ike tear apart my apartment complex while completely hammered. It was a hoot.

Because the Icey roads is why. Michigan is wierd only time they close schools/ employers is icey roads but when there's snow storm. There will be work and school, I remember when I had walk in it in high school.

I do miss that weather when I lived up there. Not really.

a lil over month or so ago, they cancelled school here the night before just because of the forecast. Ended up just being a cold rain. South Carolina is beyond pathetic
