Eclipse to be killed with 2013 model. Hoping it wouldn't come to that, but with how poorly mitsubishi is doing, and their refocus on very tiny world only cars, I guess it was expected.

A small part of me died inside after reading this Looks like my hopes for a reborn eclipse (done the proper way, built on the lighter lancer platform not an SUV platform, proper 4 cylinder with a turbo, you know the rest) have been dashed against the rocks of economic and market reality....

Let's hope the EVO doesn't follow suit. It might be considered being killed since it is such a low volume car, despite it's halo status and effect. However, it seems fromt that article the new outlander sport is selling well. Good for my wife since she might want a new small SUV.

The Eclipse has been dead to me since 2000. I feel no emotional attachment to the bloated monstrosity that currently bears the name, only a mild horror that it exists at all.

Well they aren't killing the EVO but they are ruining it by making it a hybrid with an electric motor. Was that in the 2012 model they are going to start the hybrid production? Mitsubishi is in so many different businesses that they have lost focus of what it takes to be successful in the North American auto market. Their resources are spread elsewhere in the company unfortunately.

The 4g Eclipse drives nothing like our 2g's. It drives awkward, heavy and its hard to explain how different it is.

I am not dissapointed at all. Like for Dino, it died in 2000 for me as well.

What I like about the fourth gen Eclipses is the revised mid production body style and V6 engine. But in all honesty, they just need to leave the Eclipse badge off. It's an pretty cool car, but it's no Eclipse. To me, it reminds me of the touring feel and bulk of the 3000gt's. As for the Evo, if they make it a hybrid, it's going to be a performance hybrid. That means when you want more power, that's when the electric motors kick in. I can live with that kind of "green" car. I don't see why you wouldn't still be able to modify the engine a fair bit. I was hoping they would create the RA concept as a production car, even if it was FWD turbo. Oh, well...

y do you guys feel it died in 2000? after the 3rd gen came out, these 2g's started becoming rare jewels. now they've become dirty, worn, blown up jewels.. well, most of em at least.

Agree with everyone here. When I saw the 3g in 1999, I knew the party was over. Hoped for a return to a lighter, less gaudy, and sleeker eclipse with the 4g, but that of course was a behemoth.

I went to the Detroit autoshow last week. Every manufacturer was there but Mitsubishi. I read into that as they must have nothing to show, at a time when they should be revealing a 5g. So the news doesn't surprise me.

It's odd, just how UNANIMOUS eclipse owners were in all the aspects of the car that we like, all the aspects of the newer generations we didn't like, and how MMA completely ignored all of that and still made the car BIGGER.

I see how strongly we feel about our 2G cars! Good to see it too! Trust me in 1999 I was pretty upset at finding out about the direction of the 3G.

I was just hoping for a real return to its roots. Didn't happen, and will never happen now.

I do like the 4th gen, mostly how it looks, drove well too. Certainly more of a touring car though. While I didn't agree with sticking with a heavy v6 at least it wasn't a total slouch and made good power. I thought it was a nice car, but it is too heavy and it shows. It is certainly no 2G!

With MMA killing off the three cars made just for America, I`m hoping they start sending over the cars they sell in Europe and Japan. Those have been the cars most fans of Mitsu`s wish they had.
