Task: R&R oil pan gasket.
So I got volunteered by my wife to help her coworker with her old ass Lumina. 1996, 3.1L, asinine design where you need to lift & support the engine/trans from above so that the oil pan can wiggle out.
Regardless of my angle, and lifting with the floor jack & block of wood, am I able to get it just right to get the oil pan out.
Exhaust is disconnected, A/C compressor is aside, and all the oil pan bolts are out (even that design is fucking gay - there are side bolts that secure the pan to the main caps).
Advice? I am about to just clean it as is and slap a bead of RTV on the existing gasket, but I doubt I could get it to seal.

I actually almost had to change one of those once. I rolled under the car, took one look at it and said "Nope".
From what I remember seeing, this lumina looked like you could remove a piece of the subframe to get the pan off easier, but I could have seen something wrong or it could change from one Gen to another.
Maybe just unbolt the mounts and hoist away?

My mother has a bonneville with the same engine, I never worked on it. Has leaked from the pan but her check engine light is on.
I'll send a text to my brother He has alldata and he has worked on thes pos cars. He's likes GM-Fords both are like this. But, most likely he would say Lifting the motor up would be the only way to change, it. I agree, just like 2000-up Ford Rangers, they're built like that also. My step father few years back had pita time replacing oil pan gasket and atx gasket.
