worked on my buddy's TSi AWD and noticed this... anyone come across this before?

Sorry about size - I edited it so you can see it better. First post was from my phone. It is a mini-coilover setup for the clutch pedal return spring, with a nice bearing attached to a bracket. I have always seen a normal spring attached to the sheet metal under the dash that leads to the pedal assembly as a "helper" spring.

I assume this is some sort of aftermarket modification but it is a pretty serious piece of work, and a bit overkill for helping the clutch pedal return to rest.

I put my screen down to 50% and could somewhat make it out. Some sort of spring on the clutch pedal?

Whats the point? The normal factory coil spring seems to work fine enough as is..

yup,

here

Connecting a clutch cut wire so that it bypasses the cruise-kill circuit. He just enabled No-Lift-To-Shift. It limits my RPMs with a second rev limiter whenever he pushes the clutch in so he can keep the gas pedal mashed to the floor between gears. Not only does it keep the turbo spooled and ready to go so he land in the next gear at full-boost, it also shaves valuable time off my shifts giving me more track to accelerate. His old wire's diode was fried making it non-functional.

I guess this is a 4g63 thing - funny I guess I never took the time to look at the differences under the dash emoji

Found the exploded diagram - notice the TURVO annotation.

Shep does this mod for lots of Turbos 1st and 2nd gen. Very common for them because there is something that breaks on the assembly and he replaces some stuff and does some welding. My buddy was telling me about this mod and was debating on whetether to do it himself or to send it to Shep.

It's standard OEM on every 2G 4G63 I've owned.

I always thought it was an over-center device that helps make the clutch pedal easier to stay depressed fully like at a stop light, etc. (where you have the clutch in for longer than a normal gear change).

According ot the 4g guys that is true Dave. Its also plays a part of the role of the "ghost pedal" when the seals of the clutch master fails.

Would this be beneficial for our cars, or just overkill? Because it just seems like more stuff to go wrong, unless you get one that has been beefed up.
