#44516, "Opinions on Slowboy Racing"

A local with a 96 Eclipse GS auto got ahold of me asking for help with his car. Not sure what was wrong with the car, but he decided to get a stage 2, I believe, Slowboy 420A longblock. Crower Rods, Bored .020 over, Wiseco 10.5:1 pistons, Clevite rod Bearings, Clevite main bearings, ARP rod Bolts, and Block Surfaces have been decked.

He recently just got the car going, after having to have the tranny repaired (theres a thread about it here and on tuners), he told me that when the car is running its spitting out about a quart of oil every 30 seconds from somewhere on motor. Im going to go out to his house after the car is flatbedded to him. What kind of rep does Slowboy have? Are they known for doing anything like putting oil seals or headgaskets on improperly? Or are they pretty decent at engine building. Im just wanting to know what Im going to want to look for when I go over there.

Yeah thats a 47 page pissing contest.

I personally would never buy a built motor from any shop regardless of the rep. I build my own stuff so I know what has been done to it, most of the guys on here are like that anyways.

I've never done business with them on anything but parts, which always arrived quickly and correctly. But I have heard a few horror stories about their engines on SRTForums.

I have done business with them. Good for a little while, then got plenty of lies and easily proved bullshit. Went back to them a couple of years later, same thing, good for about 3-4 months then lies and bullshit. I will NEVER do business with them again. Grapevine talk is that Huml(sp?) is a pisser to work for.

As for buying a built anything, obviously not my cup of tea. But one caveat; everybody can make mistakes, its how they support their mistakes that's important.

And you aren't positive what the user did to the set-up either. if you don't see anything obvious, do a comp check.

I thought the same thing when I started reading it.

The first time I order from Howell I got my coil and another part but had to wait 6 months for my cams for my car. I called multiple times and they kept telling me their on back order or they've been shipped out. Finally when they show up, they had been sent directly from the manufacturer COD...I was pissed. I told the guy to give me a refund and I was gonna pay for these and he argued bout throwing his inventory off. I told him to shove it and had to wait another two weeks before I could get them back.

A quart of oil every 30 seconds? This leak should be rather easy too find. It should be nearly pissing out of where ever it is located at.

But better find it fast. That means the engine would be nearly dry after 2 minutes of running.

I'd hope there's a warranty.
