#44017, "Tech Support? Gmail borked in Firefox, works in IE. WTF?"
Just started happening at work yesterday for some odd reason.
When I hit Gmail (either my inbox OR gmail.com) I get:
The connection was interrupted The connection to mail.google.com was interrupted while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Firefox works everywhere else, just like it always has. The funny thing is, when I switch to IE tab, Gmail loads in the same browser without issue. But I hate IE.
- Running FF 3.5.9 optimized - Have disabled all addons/plugins - Checking the Error Console returns a list of some rounded-corner CSS error. - Googled the problem and found all kinds of random issues with the same error message going back to 2008.
Anyone have any ideas? This first happened yesterday afternoon at random. Towards the end of the day, it worked in FF again. This morning? No dice.
This is on a corporate workstation running McAfee and the issue is not a web content filter.

Ack. Seems like ANYTHING which requires me to log in to Google doesn't work in Firefox now.
- Have stepped up to FF 3.6.3, optimized, dropped IEtab for IEtab 2. - Have tried running in safe mode w/ all extensions/plugins disabled. - Cleared cache. - Cleared cookies. - Set exception for mail.google.com as suggested. - Sold my soul to the devil.
Nada. Bupkis.
- Can't get to Gmail. - Can't access Google Docs. - Can't access Google Calendar. - Can't access Google Reader. - Can't access Feed.ly.
Damn damn damn. I hope it's just the workstation, although I won't know for sure until Saturday night, since I won't be back home before then. (sigh)

was there a system-wide update performed on background intranet connectivity?
I assume you work for at least a medium sized company that requires users to 'log in' to the internet through the intranet. sometimes during updates, issues occur and causes compatibility disconnects within the intranet. If it's working for other people, and working at home, its your workstation. Contact your IS (information services) department and ask them if they've done any system updates and notify them of your problem.

Go to apple's website and download safari. Same browser that are used on mac's. It's faster than firefox, more reliable. It doesn't matter what browser you use. The internet was built entirely around microsoft and internet explorer. Microsoft just happens to have their fingers up their asses with IE for some reason. So regardless, there will always be some pages that only work right on IE.
