I could write a damn book on this. My whole license journey is one big story. I didn't have my license for 7 years, JUST got it back his past August.
Got pulled over for 80 in a 65, on I-43 in Wisconsin. I was 16 and only had my license for 6 months. Got the standard $100 ticket. Well, I didn't have the $100 (no job) and my parents didn't have it, so I ignored it. I only went up to Wis on Sundays during the winter to race bmx (outdoor track is here in Rockford, indoor track is in Elkhorn,WI)...so I figure, from now on I'll just take it easy.
2 1/2 years later, This lady blows a stop sign, chasing her bf through my neighborhood....yes, he was in his car, she was in hers...like high speed chase,.....boom, hits me. My thinking is "I'm fine, its obviously her fault, I have insurance, I'm all good". Cops get there, yada yada take info....cop comes back and gives me a ticket. : Says my license is "Invalid". Come to find out, Illinois and Wisconsin "work together", and since my ticket was unpaid in Wis, suspending my License, it ended up Invalid in Illinois- I had been driving on an invalid license the entire time and didn't even know it. A whole lotta bullll. So after going to court to fight this, "Uhmm....I never got a single piece of paper saying a word about my license". Didn't matter. Guilty. License suspended 6 months.
A year later, hit a road side safety check (totally sober, wrong place wrong time). That's "driving while invalid #2.
Took a trip with 2 friends to go see some bands 2 hours south in Peoria. At the venue, they drink and I don't (I don't drink beer and thats all there was), after the show we head to the afterparty at a bar about 5 miles away. We get outside, I say...I'm driving, you guys are lit. We get a half a block from the bar and I see the lights behind me. WTF. Didn't see him on a side street. 36 in a 30, and my 3rd driving while invalid. I told the cop as soon as he got to the window, "Officer, I'm going to be upfront with you, I don't have my license, I'm only driving because these 2 are drunk." He didn't care. Even made one of them drive the rest of the way, knowing they were drunk. (I learned later they were pulling over virtually every car they could that night and handing out tickets like nobodys business).
Finally the state revokes my license. They give me absurd fines, want me to attend a 4 hour driver remedial course and the nearest one is an hour away, and cost $175. I didn't have the time or money to do any of the above, so I kept driving. I need to get to work. Got shit to do. Can't just stop my life.
June 08, a friend calls me, needs a ride, Sunday night...about 1am. I'm like, man I'm in bed, I don't wanna leave. He talks me into it. He lives in bumfuck and I had to piss, so I pull behind this grocery store in the loading dock area to piss real quick. My unlucky ass is pissin, and here comes a cop, doin his little drive thru of the area. Gave me a public urination ticket and I went to jail for driving on a revoked license. So, a little older now and wayyy more financially stable, paid every single red cent of my fines, took the stupid class, reinstatement fees, and made it through a year court supervision, as of dec 18th,2009, I am free and clear, fully licensed driver. Phew. I know alot of it was my fault from not paying fines, but when you don't have a job because you're still in school, or are still broke even when you have a job, not much I could do. Glad all that shit is over with. ![]()
