#41022, "December 21, 2012"

First off, for anyone that is not familiar, this date is supposed to be the end of the world according to many different sources.(Bible, Mayan, Nostradomus, astrological references, etc)

There has been programs on TV for the National Geographic Channel, news has covered the topic, and there are several websites dedicated to the thoery. December212012.com is the official webpage and some interesting reading material is on the site.

My personal opinion is that something will happen on this date although I have doubts that it will be as catastrophic as many are playing it up to be. Some of you may know that I trade futures contracts and pay regular attention to the economy, finance, and whatnot....and I think the U.S. economy and government are on the tipping point of default on treasuries. MBIA (a major bond insurer) has already threatened the U.S. governments AAA rating on its ability to repay our national debt. The recent 2 year and 5 year treasury auction went terrible and forced rates to jump because no one wants the government's debt anymore. Not to mention all of the other world problems: Middle East nuclear tension, poverty, supervirus potential, and other various things that may cause lots of conflict in the future.

Just wanted to open the subject up for general discussion and views for and against this theory. I admit, I have always been very skeptical of this "prophecy" stuff, but these proclamations seem more factual and realistic for some reason.

Thoughts?

Btw, the Bible gives no date, or implies it. God is only the one who knows the day and hour, per the Bible emoji

That's what made me laugh my ass off at the OP's post.

* Academic research does not indicate that the Maya attached any apocalyptic significance to the year 2012: the date for the end of their world lay unimaginable aeons of time in the future.
* John Major Jenkins's 'Galactic alignment' theory is based not only on a misleading astronomical claim, but in part on the same false calendrical premise.
* As the Timewave Zero theory has never been published in a peer-reviewed journal and its sources and reasoning are primarily what would be considered numerological rather than mathematical, the theory has failed to gain any scientific credibility or much recognition by professional mathematicians and scientists.
* Professional astronomers ridicule the Nibiru collision theory, which is based on claimed 'channeling' by extraterrestrials.<47><48>
* More academic research is needed into the claimed Hopi prophecy: it does not appear to mention the year 2012.<49>
* The Bible's Book of Revelation, composed some 1900 years ago, did indeed offer a dramatic picture of the end of the world—but it also promised that it would happen 'very soon'.<50> The Bible says nothing about 2012 or any similar date.
* The prophecy of the Tiburtine Sybil, as reproduced in the 16th century, did indeed likewise present a dramatic picture of the apocalypse, but did not date it, least of all to 2012.<51>
* While the quatrains of Nostradamus are clearly intended to be read in a pre-apocalyptic context, they do not specifically mention (or, consequently, date) the end of the world: their Preface states that they are valid until the year 3797.<52>
* The so-called Lost Book of Nostradamus is a version of the anonymous Vaticinia de summis pontificibus — a book of prophetic papal emblems dating from centuries before his time – and does not mention the year 2012.
* The Prophecies of Merlin were a fictional composition by the medieval Geoffrey of Monmouth,<53> amplified in 13th-century Venice, and did not mention the year 2012.<54>
* The original 1641 edition of The Prophecies of Mother Shipton says nothing at all about doomsday or the end of the world or, consequently, any proposed date for either.<55>
* The alarmist claims of imminent doom made by Sony Pictures in their fictional publicity for the forthcoming film 2012 are not supported by reputable independent academic research.

Well shit, what the fuck are History and Discovery going to show now? emoji

Hint: Nazis shooting Jews and Mike Rowe.

For my money, it doesn't get any better than this reply right here.

Beyond that, I'd just like to say that Vanessa and I finally watched "The Number 23" with Jim Carey the other night and, when we went out for a smoke afterwards, there was this odd cloud formation in front of the moon...

So I guess we have alot of skeptics... Right, but this theory gives an exact date and several references and sources to back it up. The Bible does not give an exact date in the words of the books, but have you ever heard of the Bible Code and what this implies?

Ive heard of it, but if people are going to use the Bible as some "code" that contains the day and hour of the end, then they are stupid.

It says, clearly, only God knows. Its all random BS made up by crazy historians looking to get money for appearing on the History channel.

Just saying, you cant use something for one person, when the text clearly contradicts it.

Thank you sir, triple OG member #41. She rolls CBCC like a few others on this board. Wingless with zero body mods is the way to go (barring the bomex aeromirrors). These cars are still works of art IMO if you do it right, and I think they are becoming classics based on the looks and compliments she gets almost daily. And it's usually someone starting an in-traffic conversation across lanes, or at the gas pump, he he.

LOL...just because we don't believe in your hokus-pokus doomsday mumbo-jumbo doesn't mean we're stupid. Before you point your finger, maybe you should base your theory on actual facts rather on something some bozo on the Internets told you.

I can't believe you are getting this bent out of shape about this, and some people making light of an end of the world theory.

Some lite reading for you:

http://www.bible.ca/pre-date-setters.htm

I like how there are predictions after 2012...how can the world end if it's already gone?

*Edit*

Damn it!...May 21st 2011...the day after my dads birfday....does the mean I still have to buy him a gift?

So I guess we have alot of skeptics... Right, but this theory gives an exact date and several references and sources to back it up. The Bible does not give an exact date in the words of the books, but have you ever heard of the Bible Code and what this implies?

You must have missed the other references saying you can do the exact same coding procedure with ANY book of significant length. I swear, you people just invent reasons to act paranoid.

No, actually I didn't miss it. I am actually not paranoid at all as you think I am....like one of you said "We are all gonna die some day" I was just opening the topic for discussion and all I got was people trying to bash and make fun of the post without contributing anything with meaningful content. I smell ignorance first and foremost here....

I remember when it was 1999, then 2000... then 6.6.6, now 2012...

On that day, it will likely be curtains for about 150k people. We just have to try to beat the odds.

I'm 42 these days. I have personally witnessed at least 5 "end of the worlds" come and go. You can take any book or event and turn it into anything you want (Nostradamus has been pegged to have predicted the end of the world no less than 3 times in my lifetime. So far.). And then find any number of people that will believe it's gospel. So let's say for a minute the REAL end of the world is 12/21/2012. So what? If it's already predetermined, there is nothing that can be done about it. So, you can live every day to the fullest between now and then, or you can worry and be consumed by something that is out of your control. Pass me a beer, cause I'm firmly in the camp of the former.

It is all BS. You can "predict" lots of things and eventually one or some will come true. There is no solid prediction that anything will happen. The future is untold so whatever does happen, happens. Events cannot be given a solid date to happen. You wanna fear a day of the year, then do it and everyone will laugh at you.

You need a new calender.

Maybe at that time that these historical calenders were made they realized that the calender went so far out and figured, "we don't need to make one for a while", then their civilization collapsed.... there you go, calender just wasn't updated.
