This happend on my way home from work. Thats my brother came to resecue my 2g. He'll be helping me with the repair.

I went over some tracks and my balljoint popped out and it also pulled out the halfshaft cv axlejoint from the auto trans.

I priced the halfshaft its 64.99+ tax from Autozone, I'm gonna remove the old one and exchange it for the new one which would save me money so I wont pay for the core.
Low balljoint is 88.99. I get an used one from the salvage yard, to get me by till, I get the Recall done this week.

I also have good news from this mess up, My brother told me they have an 97-99 GS at his shop thats an 5 speed. Fronend is damaged from a pot hole and the chicl that owns it wants 700 as is for it.
If my auto trans is fuc'd I'm gonna talk to her about selling it me and I'm gonna do the 5speed swap. I'll be pissed if it is I just bought a new atx radiator for it and haven't installed it yet but I could exchange it for the mtx radiator since these don't have an trans cooler etc.

If anyone in my area that has an extra decent used driverside balljoint/control arm w/ bushing that wants to sell real cheap. Let me know asap.

HAHA man the exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, im going to get a new axle right now, which unfortunatly is an hour away and i have to ride my katana with a huge ass bookbag to pick it up. Ive got a 2" drop on my car, and it took the tow truck guys 5 hours and three trucks to get the car on the flatbed.

Thank you mobil one for rust proofing my driveway.

Can you elaborate on the recall?
Do all year models fall into the catagory, and will they still fix whatever the recall is for?

Built block.
Refinished head.
Tuned suspension.
TURBO.

Get your VIN number, call your local Mitsu dealer, ask them if all the recalls have been done.

Yes, they have to fix any recalls regardless of age or how many owners the car has had. It's required by law

I believe that they have to fix anything else that got damaged because of the failure.

I found new lower balljoint for 44 and new cv halfshaft for 50 bucks plus 5 dollar core. From AllParts "federated" local store plus they also do machine work in same shop. This was up the rooad from where I used to live.

Be careful. Mitsu WON'T reimburse you for stuff you bought yourself. you have to take it to them while it's still damaged to get stuff fixed

IIRC Mitsu will pay for that too.

Call your local dealer and get the info from them before you spend a dime

ONCE. The ball joints used on 2G's can fail every 25-50k miles. They replace them ONCE for the recall and that's it.

Mine failed twice WHILE UNDER the 60k original factory warranty- they refused to cover the recall OR the warranty the second time.

Plus the part they replace is the exact same design and part number as the original defective one.

The best part is they will charge you the $80-120 "diagnosis charge" even if the VIN comes up in their computer as recall not performed. Usually you can get this refunded by MMNA eventually.

Part of your 6-month service should include jacking the wheels off the ground and shaking/pushing the wheel in every direction to check for slop and clunks.

Correct. If the car has no record of the recall being done then you're golden. If it's been done before then you're hosed.

Bonus: If you've ever brought them into a dealership to be INSPECTED for failure, that also counts as the recall being performed.

Mine went out at 99k. A buddies went out on his avenger at 110k. Both were the same side as the OP's car. This was like 7 years ago. They wouldnt reimburse me for the fender damage and I had the car in twice for the recall within 15k of the failure and I was told they were good.

Ive had mulitple 250k+ Civic's since then and not a one had more than a little play in the BJ. Nothing like the complete failures you see on the 2g DSM/Avenger/Sebring. Ive also never had a honda that leaked 2 qts a week down the back of the block from a shitty headgasket design at 50k like my talon did.

I just saw a guy in the driveway of Walmart with a 2g Talon a month ago sitting there with a busted balljoint. I couldnt help but say to him as I creeped past: "Shoulda bought a honda!!" emoji emoji

Im not a total hater though. I still like the looks of the silver 97-99 GS Eclipses in stock form without gay altezzas and such. Too bad all the eclipses in my area are like 5 colors of primer, altezzas, auto, stock engine, non turbo, no cat, and a fart can emoji

EDIT: Im an old school 2gnter but its been years and I couldnt remember my pwd.

Man that sucks..atleast you are okay though and did not hit another oncoming driver or anything you know.

I still need to get that done as well. Is it for both lower arms or just the one?

I almost did a head on, the other driver saw the balljoint pulled apart/ and the axle bust. he was 40 feet away.

When the balljoint when I felt the bust also, I pulled my ebrake when it went out. I slid 20-30 feet came to a complete stop about 10 feet in front of the other car. I almost pissed myself lmao, when it happend. I'm very thankful this out in the country Middlebranch Ohio, for some peeps who know the area. Well its on the eastside of Green OHIo going towards Alliance, If you where to look on a map.

Mike it was the driveside lower balljoint only..

My 2g is at my brothers shop Middlebranch Collision in Canton. Had my brother pick up a new balljoint and halfshaft, I called him from work tonight he told me I busted the axle also and that my transmission okay. So, I won't be needed that other mtx just in case I'm gonna check it out in the morning.

I would really like to take my 2g to Waikem Mistu in Massilon but the towing would outragous from Canton to the dealer, got a qoute about it same of the accident.

I'm paying my brother to do the work plus Im gonna abit also.

Price for parts driverside lowerballjoint and the driverside halfshaft is $103 plus 30 core for the halfshaft.

The amount I'm about going pay is 165 thats includes parts/labor and he paid half of the towing.

My brother said he charge me 25 labor and this is what he charges others. 25 for labor beats other shops around Canton.

After this is all fixed I'm take it in and have them do the recall on both sides. I'll shit if the passenger side axle bust after the recall.

I'm lucky I have a relative that was 5 minutes away and that has a shop, cut me a deal on the cost to have it fixed.

Yes, sir he does when I talked to him while I was waiting to be he seem like he was cop, but he was cool from this miss hap. He knew it wasn't my fault, these where the original balljoints.

There was a small hill tracks sat on top of it. When I drove over the hump, my balljoint/axle busted.

I spent a few hours this morning getting both off, my axle was busted balljoint is destroyed. My rotor was a bitch to get off without pb blast, I used a sludge and spin the rotor at same time, took us an hour and after is smooth sailing.

I agree with you all about rust loves our 2g's, it ate my backing plate, front and rear I'm replacing my brakes also.

I'm happy that my atx isnt fuk'd but I'm very tempted on doing the mtx swap. I prefer on the saying if its not broken don't fix it.

My 2g would be finished monday or tuesday, I have take the whole arm with axle, and have the wheel bearing pressed out, for the axle removal. Allparts has a machine shop behind the store and they charge 35 to be pressed out.

I found out today also this shop doing my repairs gets customers from word of mouth.

If anyone going to the SO, and needs some done, the shop is located I 77 south and route 62 east. Coming from PA you take route 62 West, just before 77 north to Akron towards Norwalk. Mapquest it you'd 62 and Middlebranch ave.

My is certified and he charges 25 for small job and 50 for major jobs, he prefers the person to buy the parts and he'll install them. He guarantees his work and will beat any labor rate.

The ATX radiator will work just fine. IIRC they don't even sell MTX radiators, at least at advanced auto. All that I know is that I have a ATX radiator in my 5 speed.

Backside view of my accident emoji emoji

First skid mark is my front tire and the second is the atx fluid or the trans pan.

Damn, I'm fuk'd if its the transmission pan that made the second skid mark. But, I believe it was the fluid cause it was pouring out like a faucet.

I snap/post a pic of the other 2g at the shop while mines getting worked on and hanging out at my brothers crib/visit my uncle till its fixed.

I probably gonna help my brother out with renting the shop, I was told that my uncle is quiting the repair retiree the body shop moving to florida. I'll surprise him when I get my shit together lol pay old debts off. Not sure, though stuff happends till then.

Thanks guys for the replies helped keep my spirit up, I found out same day my mother had a mild heart attack, but she thought is was her sugar. I know different thought, I'm taking her Monday to her doctors see what they say.

Glad to know you made it out alive, could have been much worse. Do you think they will reimburse you for at least the parts if you do it yourself? I don't think mine have ever been changed, but I don't want anybody touching my car but me either.

My radiator came with paperwork stating that if I had an auto transmission I would have to install a separate trans fluid cooler. It is a Fluidyne though.

Im back on the road, I replaced the rotors also fronts where pta. I had to replace my spindle and hub the bearing was seized in. Salvage part cost me 69 bucks plus it had a new backing plate, which is rare because they usally are rusted out like mine was, front and passengere sides where, the rears are okay.

Everything went back on without problems, removal is a pain. Im having my rear brakes tommorrow and crashing my brothers place until, I'm like 7 quarts low on my atx I only added two in after I was finished, plus Im going to my transmission and brakes Flushed.

What is the average cost to have an ATX and brakes flushed and filled.

I took some pics during the this fix it went good. I'll add them in shortly.

Strange how we have all had different luck at the dealers with this recall.

I've had two vehicles get the recall work done for free twice. They first protested that the recall had been done already but both times I insisted that the recall stated they had to change them if they were bad regardless of the prior recall/inspection history or ownership.

Both times I got called back a few days later to make an appointment and I got a free second set installed. Maybe I just had a better dealer here in Mesa. Unfortunately, they are one of the dealerships chosen to be closed by Chrysler. emoji

Is there a website where I can read more about this recall? Or possibly one that I could enter my VIN into myself to see whether it has been performed?

Job done, very pleased with cost of parts grand total 172.48 Great price for all three parts. I'm gonna start dealing with Federated autoparts, I been what their prices where drove by them just everyday.

Next thing will be a transmission flush and fill. I could imagine what 10yrs of build up looks like, original atx. Brake bleed all around since I had my brakes done

There's one more thing that pissed me of abit and is somewhat a minor fix.

I took picture of it, will post up Friday when Im at home. I'm visiting/vacation at my brothers till this friday.

How much would you local welders charge for one minor job

Here's the picture Im using my sister inlaw mini latop

emoji emoji

Well, My bro helped me out we used the jack method to remove the balljoint/axle he jacked to f'n far up, in the well whata jackass I heard a crunch. He denied that he made it but I know my car and it wasnt like this.

Im calling around for price for a cut tower probably both sides. I'm going to use the rusteoluem method on both strut towers.

What would you charge me to repair this, it wasnt that bad before this happend.

I need some help guys, I know from reading in some threads that it is possible to fix this.

That is not a "minor" job.

Can't blame your brother for that either, that's years of rust. You should be able to compress your ssupension at any point.

true,

I spent some hours searching the net and I found a guy akron/canton would fix both sides for 300 each side 24hour turn around.

He has a blog site with details, affordable parts/prices you could get from a dealer etc.. for the diy.

He mentioned about buy an repair kit from a dealer strut tower cap it runs 22 both sides, for repairing the strut tower.

Here's link:

Does this seem legit or scam, I really need to get my towers repaired. Price is great within my range.

Use this guy to fix yours if its legit.

http://www.caravanvoyagerstrut-towerrepair.com/

I bet he could fix them our 2g even though it says caravan.

I think I'm gonna start making section cuts of the strut towers on the cars I buy to part out. I keep seeing more and more of these things rusted to shit and all the cars here in Colorado are clean as can be.
