I just bought a new car finally! I'll post pics of that eventually. But I'm looking to buy an aftermarket GPS, preferably one with bluetooth and I'm new to the whole GPS game, so anybody know which ones are good or where I should even begin my search?

My friend has a Garmin and likes it a lot. I've heard mixed reviews about the Tom Toms.

Advice?

I've heard good things about Garmin's and a lot of negatives about the Tom Tom's. Most of the people on the Maxima boards put in Pioneer AVIC D3's but that's quite a bit more than a PnP GPS unit.

Honestly it depends if you want just a car-mount or one that is functional as a hand-held as well. (Granted, most of them function in this fashion, but some are far better than others.)

I don't know about having blue teeth, but I have used both. I prefer the Garmin. Clearer instruction and easier to use on the fly. Just a better window/screen (and that English guy has a pretty sexy voice emoji

If I'm taking one on the road, I'm choosing the Garmin.

Got a Garmin for xmas. Works good! The restaurant finder is nice when you're looking for somewhere to eat.

Radar detectors in this day in age = fail. >70% of all Law enforcement uses a laser detector in this day in age. If you can defeat that, more power to you; But, by and large you won't do it. The thread was looking for mapping devices, not Law Enforcement defeating devices...

Big differences between the two.

Ive had my radar detector a month now, and its already saved me at least 3 tickets. Granted, those were officers shooting X band or K/Ka band. I got hit with Laser once, and thankfully I was actually under the speed limit.

Anyway, My girlfriend got me a magellan roadmate for my birthday last year, and I love it. Its updatable, has all sorts of local locations like restaurants, garages, banks, etc. It also will tell you how fast you are going and I believe it is more accurate than the speedo. Great directions too.

Not if the officer was using radar.

LIDAR cannot be used if enforcement is moving, only if he's on the side of the rode standing still. I don't know your source for the % estimate, but by your estimate radar is still being used for a significant amount of cases.

I understand the blinder systems are good defense. Depends how much you want to spend of course

That's why the device I mentioned is GPS. There is a big difference between having countermeasures and an understanding of your rights, versus not giving a damn and not doing anything about it.
