#37864, "Should I keep my current Eclipse or sell it for a different one?"

I have a '97 Eclipse Spyder GS Convertible.
I really want to put performance parts on it, but would I be better off doing that to a different model?

Please let me know, thanks.

It's a good platform. If you're willing to do a little research and spend a little more money than usual, you could have a 2.4L turbocharged AWD Spyder. The 2.4L mill in your car is all the rage these days with the 4G63 crowd as the foundation of a monster engine. When you consider that the 2.4L is a 4G63 derivative and that you can install the head and turbo gear off a turbo DSM onto your car (not exactly easy, but getting more common these days) and, should you be really die hard, the AWD transmission and running gear, things look a bit more optimistic than if you were to sell it and pick up another run-of-the-mill GST.

Hope this helps.

Okay, so my car would be better to "soup" up I guess, sorry I'm only 16, I'm just getting to know all of these things and I think they are awesome.

The thing is once I get going about 60, it gets noisy, then at 100 or so, my car gets death wobble and the roof starts leaking air.

My alignment is horribly off, if I take my hands off the wheel it would fly into oncoming traffic.

How much would you say it would cost to make it turbo charged w/ AWD trans, and would that help out my performance substantially?

I was just going to follow the steps 1 by 1.

Fixing your roof and getting your alignment done right should come first and foremost.

To turbo your car and do the awd swap would probably cost you anywhere from $2500-$5000 and that's a rough estimate depending on what you want and where you're sourcing parts.

You want a ricer? Why?

Please dont.

I think I forgot to say that my eclipse has automatic transmission, should I still modify it? Or should I sell it and buy a manual eclipse?

Actually if you are really getting into cars and want to know alot of how it works and how it goes together. Then I would say keep it. You can start with bolt-ons like cold air intake or exhaust, headers. But, when you want to go deeper then the 2.4L in gs spyders and the 2.0 in the rs,esi, and gs w/o convertible top I think are great to start out on. If you wanted to turbo your car you could. If you want to switch to a manual transmission then you could with the added benefit of making it awd. It's all up to what you want to do, how long you want to keep the car, and how much your willing to pay for it.
