#34025, "any general electricians out there?"
Jun-20-08 11:05 AM by foggy45

i have decided to finish my basement on my new house and am doing all the work myself. i will be adding a bar, exercise room, my office and a dedicated home theater.
now i know inorder to be able to sell the house later down the road, i must do things according to NEC code.
most of the general basic wiring (lights, switches, receptacles) i completly understand.

however i am having a bit of a problem with the dedicated wiring of my home theater.
for this i have decided to add a sub box with which all of my Isolated Ground recepticales will be terminated, so as to keep all this seperate from the main breaker box.

now my problem is: How is the Isolated Ground (green w/ yellow) terminated in the box itself?
does it just attach to the Ground buss bar directly from the recpticle itself or is there another buss bar that i need to add?
Then how does this buss bar get grounded to the main box? does it have to be run to the service ground or can there be a seperate ground for this sub box?

now for the wire itself: some books said to use nm12-3 and recode the red wire with green tape, but this is a code violation. im having a hard time finding the right cable to use for these runs. Does anybody know where i can source MC/AC12-3 IG-coded cable? (black, white, green, green w/ yellow) i have decided on 9 IG recepticles so i dont need a 1000' spool of this stuff. lol

BTW, the IG recepticles are 20amp IG-Hospital grade, and will ONLY be used for electronics. (computers, amps, projector, disk transports etc)

also, is there anyway to hardwire in a battery backup system into this sub panel? something like an APC system or similar.

thanks in advance emoji
