#33436, "New ride...."
May-29-08 06:13 PM by 992gnt

Picked up a 2003 Aprilia SL1000R Falco today. emoji Looks pretty much exactly like the one here; I'll have my own pics up sometime this weekend. It's a 998cc Rotax 60 degree v-twin with a dry sump, slipper clutch, twin 51mm throttle bodies, ~120whp. 320mm full floating SS rotors and 4 piston Brembos up front, along with 43mm fully adjustable Showa front forks. Mods include a fully adjustable Ohlins rear shock, new gears and chain, RSV Mille rear swingarm, shock linkage and headpipes, and an ART exhaust can.

I can't believe I've waited 11 years since I quit racing them to throw a leg over a bike. I'm pretty rusty, but that's nothing some time in the saddle won't fix. emoji Ciao!

I really like the look of the bike, and of course sounds like a beast. The open engine area is nice, compared to a bike with so much fairing that it looks like a plastic toy. What made you choose this bike?

I've always wanted an Italian bike, and these are slightly cheaper and WAY more reliable than a Ducati. It kinda fell into my lap, as it was owned by a fine Italian chap who was working not 5 miles from my house for an Italian company. He is leaving in August to go back home and cannot take it with him. After looking at Suzuki's, Yamaha's and Honda's for the last few weeks, this was a no-brainer. It is absolutely gorgeous, and sounds and rides equally well. I should be riding up to the speedway in September for the MotoGP race with nearly 300 of my fellow Aprilia owners, including a lap around the new course. emoji

It's an aftermarket can from ART in England. Doesn't look 'quite' as out of place in person, but is on the list of future potential upgrades.

Very nice Greg...I'm extremely jealous and currently in some brutal negotiations with my wife to let me buy a bike. But I'm not looking for anything near that beastly. In fact the only thing I really want it for is back and forth to work to save gas. So I've almost got her talked into a '08 Kawi Ninja 250. Great looks (IMO) Cheap ($3500 new) and great on gas(apx 65mpg).

Pics are HERE

So I've put around 100 miles on it so far. The skills are slowly coming back, and my initial impression of the bike is that it is amazing. WAY more power than I need right now. Very comfy, although it feels like it's sprung a bit stiff. I think I'll keep it.
