#33308, "Indy 500 weekend"

Ya.. it's not the pinnacle of racing to the extent of what it used to be. I do have to admit I wish they still had the turbos. Yet, I'm still going and I'm still going to have a killer fucking weekend. Anyone else going, or watching?

I'll be watching, it would be cool to be at the races but I'm a bit far away for that.

at least it's not nascar.. open wheel is a whole other ballgame in my opinion. and it's "the greatest spectacle in racing" so they say. I guess it says something that it brings in a field from all over the world in multiple racing classes.

Amen to that.
first: IRL does do a decent mix of roadcourse/oval track racing, nascar does 2 roadcourses a year (N/M they cancelled the other one)

second: IRL uses technology from this century besides tires. Nascar is still using carburators and runs the risk of grenading their 7+ liter V8's past 9000 rpms. IRL runs over 10000 rpms comfortably in 3.5 liter engines that run on ethanol.

third: open wheel is WAY more dangerous. If you rub a tire in nascar someone *might* spin out. If you rub a tire in open wheel racing there's a good chance someone's going flying.

Some great pics there man. I met up with Andrew while I was there, and I want to thank him again for hooking me up. We were about as close to pit road as you can get without being on the pitcrew. As we were there, there was an accident right in front of us and we caught a few pit stops. When my friends send me the pictures I'll post them up. I took two videos on my phone, but I don't know how great of quality they are. I was completely taken by how insanely loud those cars were, and how you could feel the ground shake as they drove past. Just one was loud enough to drowned out the voice of the person sitting right next to you, multiply that by 30 cars in the field. It was really a great time, not just the race but the crazy party the night before up and down Georgetown St along the raceway.

too bad you can't incorporate the adjustable suspension from the Indy Cars onto a 2gnt. Suspension adjust ability from the steering wheel, how sweet that would be.

That doesn't even scratch the surface of what Indy Car and Formula One can do from the steering wheel. Those cars are truly engineering marvels when you think about all the capabilities. They can go 220mph for 500miles in a couple hours, and.. in IC's case they do it on ethanol. When po-dunk Nascar comes close to the engineering level of open wheel I won't be so disgraced by it, they still have to learn how to take a turn in more than one direction.

in one of my idiotic wanderings around the high-end market i went "Lottery Wishing" for cool stuff my eclipse i actually called up Magneti Marelli (ECM systems for Ferrari F-1) and talked to the guy about doing a competition system for our cars for time attack type setup.

yeah . . . . $25k for the whole thing (dash display, steering wheel interface, full dataloging and telemetry including install and tuning)

incase your wondering this went real well with the $18K sequential transmission and the $12k pneumatic valve train

think ill buy a R35 skyline instead lol

Maybe if he throws in 3 free hookers and a complete drivetrain swap to AWD and a roll cage I'd consider it.
