Definately goofy looking but try being a cop in Phoenix, in Augest, in full uniform and vest...and a 15 year old cruiser with hardly adequate A/C. I've had a cop pull me over and sit in my passenger seat to write a warning it was so hot outside.

No, I understand the function; and I'm sure some of the cops around here use them too. (100* days w/ 100% humidity) It's just his pose while wearing it that looks goofy as hell.

I think I remember seeing some CO2 vests at one point in time. It has a canister like you'd put in a pellet rifle, every time you want a burst of cool you squirt some CO2 into the vest and it's supposed to cool you for 15 minutes or so.

we use Liquid cooling vests sometimes in surgery. (think if an underarmor shirt with silicone tubing sewn to it)
there nice especially when we have to crank the room temp to 90* for burn patients and Pediatrics. this is not a portable unit and the chilled resivor is kinda bulky, but it works good for stationary activity
