#31904, "So this is what a dsm is supposed to be like..."

So some of you might remember my eclipse got totalled about a month and a half ago.

Well that car almost never gave me problems, it was a freak I guess, only time the check engine light came on was when the spark plugs went and i was running on three cylinders. car always started, always ran fine, trans was great, etc etc, oh well, guy hit me, its gone.

So I picked up a 95 Talon the other day from a member here. Plenty of miles, some mods, and its bringing back memories of reading all about problems that these cars have on these boards but my eclipse never had.

Got it home and first thing I did was replace the bulb for the check engine light. Sure enough it was on emoji Couple codes there. It grinds a bit going into second at high rpms, and pops out of 5th gear at completely random times for seemingly no reason. The fuel gauge likes to play mind games with me, telling me I have a half tank, then next time I look its full again. And the brakes and struts both need work, and they let me know it at random times during the drive :-P

I'm sure as hell glad to have another dsm, but I can't help but laugh and kick myself for thinking I'd get lucky twice with these things :-P pics to come. the paint is immaculate tho emoji

wouldn't allow it. some bullshit runaround but yeah, no. I would've loved to get the rims and tires, they were mint.

That Talon is screaming for a 97-98 front end and 95-96 tsi skirts.

Congratulations on another 2gnt. Lucky.

I'll never learn if it doesn't force me to Terry emoji

So far I replaced a heater hose going from the block to the heater core, that was causing me to overheat and blow icy air through the vents. There was a switch unplugged that was making my idle kinda screwy. Two issues solved. Now the trans, thats something you can help me out with, but not for awhile down the road. How much you charging for a rebuild these days?

As for the body, yeah, it would love an update (I'd love to get the 97 talon front), but for now I want to do it right and make it run perfect, and prepare my finances for turbo before making it any prettier than it is... and 3 grand isn't a bad price around here, everything I was looking at for that $ or less had many more problems and looked like shyt.

edit: oh, yeah it had black rims, but I'm not really a fan of all black rims and the tires on those rims were due to be replaced. these gst rims had fresh tires on em, and I like the silver over all black (would love 18" blacks with a chrome lip) so I went with these instead.

I searched around, didn't find anything about him in the "bad guys" section or anything of the sort.

I'm heading back there to pick up some extra shit too later this month. This cars in great condition besides what I listed. And nom, I had no idea you did that a lot, I figured you just helped guys with the 2g's they already owned.

Transmission sounds like mine.

The cause, somebody didn't change the fluid or it's nearly bone dry.

That's what mine looked like when i dropped it last month.

Popped out of 5th, grinded 3rd and fourth, sometimes it wouldn't go into second or reverse.

Current tranny needs coaxing into 1st and reverse from a stop sometimes but it will downshift into first no problem from a slow roll. Nothing a couple clutch pumps wont fix. emoji It drives better now than it ever did before. I'm keeping the old trans hoping to rebuild it one day when i'm bored and have nothing to do.

I understand where you are coming from. I bought my 99 RS when it had 48K on it, and I have only done comprehensive 60 & 120K services, aside from normal maintenance. Never had random things break or headache issues with it. Knock on wood of course. I am at 128K now and am planning a motor build as soon as this next deployment is over.

I love my 2GNT.
