Sitting at a red light, 3 inches of snow on the ground, I figured it was a good chance I'd crash sooner or later driving all over in this crap. Nope. Asian guy comes down the road I'm waiting to turn on, tries to make a right turn in his 96 Ford Taurus going about 20-25, obviously doesnm't make the turn and plows headfirst into my car. With over 160k on the clock I don't think they're gonna wanna fix it. Had the car for 5 years now and was just beginning to gather the funds to fix her up for turbo.

Can I get you to host the pic, instead of linking it from facebook? It's blocked here at work, so i only see a red X.

Sorry to hear that though emoji

oh hell no you buy that car back from insurance and fix it. They will pay you out for the price of the car. Buy it back and fix it.

My buddys GSX was parked on by a moving truck. He paid 2k for a 98(bastard) with a salvaged title.(theft recovery car was a ok) Insurance gave him 3k to fix the damage. We had a parts car all he had to pay for was a headlight. Now he has a 1g head a 16g, safc2 And a fmic. these things suck but work the system and you should be ok.

get her back should cost around 500 bucks.

hell there is a 2gnt on the base junk yard. stuff is cheap tell me what you need. I think I could get you the entire driver side parts you need for less than 100.

We will build you bigger and stronger

Wake up and drive my ass... More like wake up and fix it.

Your wrong. It all depends on state laws and insurance laws as to whether you can buy it back. They can refuse to sell it back to you. Last I checked, may have changed, in IL the car must be older than 7 years old to be able to be sold back to the owner. When it is sold, the insurance company will make you pay market value of the salvage vehicle. On a 96 this can be as high as 1500. Junkyards are paying 400 for a non running abandoned car. This one runs and has a good drivetrain. They will pay over 500 just for the drivetrain alone. Junkyard prices have risen drastically in IL.

I discussed the topic with my insurance (AllState) because for years I only had liability so they couldnt take the car from me if i was put in the hospital. IN IL most insurace come get the car within 2 days. We discussed buy back prices on my 97 when it became 7 years old and the agent (which is a friend of mine) told me if the car got rearended the buyback could be as high as 2k because of the demand of various used parts that would be purchased by body shops to fix other insurance jobs.

1.5 year ago we tried to buy back my sisters 97 ESI and State Farm refused.

Terry, you need to move to a better state, jk. That blows man. I would flip if I was told I couldnt buy my car back. Anywho, eclipsesix, if you can get your car back, either fix it or part it out here. Don't let it be a total loss.

He has Allstate and so far they've been decent. Got me in a rental 08 PT Cruiser (it drives nice, its new, but i hate it) after only one day. Going to see the doctor tomorrow morning about my back. Curious to see what Allstate is going to offer as a settlement if I intend to sue.

So, whats the process to buy back the car? They give you a check for what they think the car is worth in the event they total it out, and I contact them afterwards about buying it back? Or is it something that needs to be done sooner than that?
