Well I signed up for VSE.com its free and I need help so that I can invest in real life ASAP.

So I was thinking if any one else wants to sign up we could make a game of it. See who can get a certain amount of money in a certain time limit, then we could share our strategies, and possibly use them in the real world?

I've been really interested in investing for a long time, and just looked into it seriously. Seems like a good opportunity to make some money on both short and long term emoji

Unless your trading options, best advice I can give you is... Buy LOW, Sell HIGH. Have you done any trading previously, practicing on fake money is definitely a good step. Look at previous trends and know when that company is going to release earnings for the quarter. That can really throw the prices off the charts one direction or another, so until your more familiar with that I would be wary of trading during those times. Like a lot of people have always said, Diversify, diversify, diversify!!

buy low and sell high is a great peice of advice..... only in a perfect world could one do this all the time...

options can be fun (puts n calls)

keep an eye on countrywide (largest lender in the world).....

if i had the $$ to invest, it would go straight to china (and i would get the fuck outta the US)

I've never invested in my life. I have no (real) idea what you guys are talking about, besides the "buy low, sell high". I don't know what all that release earnings crap is, I have no idea what "trading options means".

The VSE.com game I am in right now gives me $1000, and who ever makes closest to 1 million wins. I guess I can just buy random stocks (that are cheap) and when they are worth more than what I bought for, sell them? How do I know what to buy initially? What if a stock that is low now, only keeps going down? I'm definitely going to practice with VSE until i have SOME idea of what the fuck I'm doing.

Sorry, for the stupid questions, and I would really appreciate any more input, even on what to do in my current VSE (Virtual Stock Exchange) game.

Thanks in advance peeps. :thumsbup

I assumed a simple google search could clarify that. I didn't think I had to specify sorry. Any who, sign up for the Race For A Million, game. I'm in that one.

EDIT: How much can I diversify with ONLY $1000?! Unless I buy penny stocks...

That's the problem, you DID specify. You specified the wrong site.

Well I signed up for VSE.com

VSE.com is a specific website, Valley Services Electronics.

If you had said "VSE" that'd be different.

Diversification should be looked at relative to your total investment. Consider the percentage of what you have in each, not the amounts.

I would give you advice on specific stocks but everyone has their own techniques. If this challenge is only for a short amount of time then you need to get in growth stocks. Watch "Mad Money" on MSNBC with Jim Cramer. Like him or not, the guy makes a ton of money, so he's worth listening to. He can tell you what has growth vs value.

Most challenges like this are won by short selling. Consider that if you really want to do well.

Good luck.

No. IMO this guy is like any other guru - if you follow someone else's trading advice, you will get fleeced with the rest of the sheep

The future looks like this: Gold will be the next bubble. Housing will implode despite what the politicians and banks try to do (housing prices will fall back to where they were in year 2000 after you adjust for inflation - been saying this since 2004-5, I expect it will take to 2012). Cheap credit will dissapear, some major financial institutions will fall because of the derivatives markets and mortgage debacle. The U.S.$ will continue to fall. Chinese Yuan will upwards adjust, until the Chinese bubble pops next. Ben Benarke will choose to destroy the US dollar for the sake of Gas/ crude oil prices will be down 1st quarter in 2008, but after that, we may see over $100/barrel as the norm. Inflation will be awfully high but don't expect government statistics to reveal it. In the next 15 years, we need to have political leaders come in to power that will actually change are huge entitlement system, or the U.S. is done. BTW, if the truth underlying the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac situation is brought to public awareness, we can also expect a financial system collapse. It really doesn't look good for the U.S. right now. Though europe and japan have serious issues that put them almost in the same boat.

FFS, you mean Race-to-a-Million?

Seriously, how do you expect to do well in the stock market if you can't pay attention to such unimportant details as the name of the website, or the name of the game?

"Hay guyz I found this cool website 2ngt.net, I'm driving a 1994 Egil Talin, its awsome, come join."

I'm not trying to be mean, but really, pay attention. Otherwise you'll be one of the many victims of people who do. Especially when it comes to money.

You need to tone the fuck down the disrespect sir. Just because this is the "Pits" doesn't mean you can ignore all of the common courtesy rules.

If you can't contribute anything useful to this community you need to lurk more until you do, or get the fuck out.

I don't know who the fuck you are, where you came from or why you are here( and I don't give a flying fuck). The fact that you STILL only have one post because you keep to the pits lets me know that you are even more of a idiot than what you make yourself look like.

Rest of 2gnt: Excuse the outburst of rage towards the failing nub...

I can understand your frustrations, trust me I can. Your message might be better suited by alerting a moderator and letting them deal with his behavior. That's one reason why the moderators are here, to moderate out of line behavior. (along with hundreds of more important tasks that we all appreciate) So instead of stooping to his level of foul language in a public forum, please just use the alert function. I don't want to see this thread locked.. so lets get back to the subject.

I would just like to point out I used no foul language, while edxmon himself did. I also made no disrespectful comments, did no name calling, and said nothing about him as a person, only called out some poor choices he was making. I on the other hand WAS personally attacked and cussed at for what amounts to a complaint that I and everyone else had to spend 5 minutes surfing around trying to figure out what he was talking about.

I appreciate the demote though. I don't like calling people on their mistakes that waste our time, under the color of authority.

Anyways, vse.marketwatch.com/Game/Portfolio.aspx?a=ezQpFS8Dp0gFrPv/AGG181RfJbSAl/Q2jpkv8xNHNJBc97mPxPCfkwI5EPpXRQEi&g=Race-to-a-Million is down 2%. Here's hoping for the Fed rate cut.
