#29583, "Poll question: should i buy a 1st gen"

Well i want a winter car, because i dont like driving the 2gnt in the snow. I found a good deal on a 1993 tsi awd With about 200KM on the body and less that 30 000Km on the motor. it has a boost ontroler and after market boost gauge, a few sets or rims and is certified for the road already. the body and interior are in great shape and if is only about an hour and a half away from me. He wants 3 thousand canadian for it, which is really cheap for talons in generial around here because of supply and demand. the main thing is that it is certified, so i can get it in my name and drive ti tomorow. So does this seem like a good deal for a really quick winter car? thanks.

This would make not only a good winter car, but an excellent DD as well. Go for it.

If you say so about the price. Other than that, the concept works nicely.

Well the price seems high compaired to all of the ones i see for sale in the states. but even on auto trader canada, i cant find a nice tsi Awd for under 3000, the only ones you can find for that cheap are all burning oil.

Thank you mobil one for rust proofing my driveway.

That alone would make me buy it. If it passes inspection/smog/safety/certification/whatever then its rare and you're lucky to have found it. Make sure it doesn't have to be re-certified soon or upon transfer.

Remember you're buying a 15 year old car that had problems from the day it was built. At the very least you're going to need to do $200 worth of fluid and gasket changes immediately, and replace every piece of rubber in the suspension, engine, and door/hatch seals which is expensive and takes more labor than rebuilding the engine.

Still, 100% worth it. Especially since you're in Canuckistan.

my opinion is...

before you buy it, make sure you have about the same amount of money you spend on the car itself to put into it for repairs/upgrades. They need it, all of them.
