#27012, "Honda question"

Honda Accord 94

Basically my younger brother is driving cross country right now in it since Sunday night from NY to CA. He's currently in Denver and he says the car feels a bit 'hot'. He says the temp needle is still in the halfway mark though.
I told him to stop the car and let it cool off for a while. He got nervous and bought some transmission fluid but doesnt know where to put it. He said he checked the oil and its fine. An oil change was done before he left. Also I told him to check the antifreeze while he's at it. He wants to change the tranny fluid but has no clue; is it worth even trying/walking him through? I'm not sure myself how ot do it on those cars or if its worth it. He's trying to get to Torrence CA.

SO you mean to tell me that he thinks the car was hot but he bought transmission fluid???

Checking tranny fluid and radiator fluid is the same on all vehicles.

Tell your brother to leave the car on the side of the road and send him a plane ticket directly to Cali. emoji

J/K...I have a civic and am not sure if it's the same but the drain plug on my civic tranny is a bolt directly on the bottom of the tranny. To fill it you have to get a funnel and fill from the top by pulling out a yellow dipstick. If your brother has a toolbox and is mechanically inclined then he should be fine but if he's not then he should just drive with the heater on and windows down to let out some of the car's heat. Was the car running fine before he embarked on his cross country voyage?

I believe that car if it's ATX has a tranny dip stick.

Poor it in there.

How does a car feel hot? If you touch the engine while its running or has been running its going to feel hot and could burn you so how did he come to this determination? And if the temp gauge is still dead center what is he worrying about? You also have to consider that the car is working pretty hard going up hills and mountains.
