That's not a f*&$ing Demon! I hate those SOB Exec's that think they can just through a badge or nameplate on a car and expect us to forget what the original really was. I'm gonna drive to my local Dodge dealer and throw a brick through the window now.

It's a roadster. Other than the small aesthetics specific to each manufacturer there isn't a whole lot of room to be different. emoji

EDIT:
I have lights like that. Targa Newfoundland, as far as I recall, is a mostly tarmac rally. A road rally if you will. Nothing wrong with that, but some would say that "real" rally racing happens on dirt and gravel. General consensus is that the Caliber, despite being available with AWD is too porky and fragile for "real" rally racing. emoji

The only model of Caliber with AWD is the R/T and with a CVT as the only tranny choice.

You're right about the Newfoundland rally though, all tarmac. But hey, there's *some* slightly competitive FWD group 5 cars. emoji

This is the car on the stage in that video.

Without that pod on there, you'd only be able to see the corner as you went right past it. emoji

I respect the old Mopar muscle. I love it. it gives me a chub just thinking about old Hemi cars.

That being said...

I don't give a fuck what any of you think, how you think they're selling out the old cars, forgetting what made them great, etc, etc, blah blah blah.

I'd buy it just because it's a World engine (technologically derived from the 420A, among others) and it's called - *gasp* the fucking Demon. Roots be damned, Chrysler has the rights on the name and no other Big Three has the fucking balls to make a Demon.

Hell, I don't care what it is. You don't build a piece of shit car and call it a Demon. That's a Pinto. That's a Nova. If you have the fucking nuts to build it and call it a Demon, fuckin A, it's gonna be something.

Chrysler is known for building crazy-stupid cars sometime. Think HEMI Cuda. Think SuperBee. Think MOPAR. Think SRT4 Neon. Think SRT6 Crossfire. Think SRT10 Viper, and, oh fuck wait - a motherfucking Ram truck with the same motor. Shit! They're losing their ass selling cars that are, in a nutshell, nuts.

They're not going to make something, call it a Demon, and have it be like a Caviler. No. This is going to go after the Solstice GXP, The Saturn Sky, whatever Ford's two-seater offering is, in a range less than the Crossfire.

I think it'll be a cross between the GM Solstice/Sky and the SRT4 Neon - RWD, overpowered, unrefined, made for the enthusiast.

I think it's a good thing.

...and here's to hoping they deliver on the unrefined part with no electronic fairies between mashing the go pedal and letting the rear tires burn themselves into oblivion (ex: Viper).

Well said, Dino. emoji

Skunkworks Sebring. As far as I know it's for their SEMA booth but we could also be seeing a prototype for the SRT Sebring. emoji

Speaking of...Dodge announced the estimated release time of the new SRT-4. emoji

www.autoblog.com/2007/06/25/dodge-caliber-srt-4-finally-coming-this-fall/

=========
It's taken about a year and a half to get the Dodge Caliber SRT-4 to market, but by September the newest and smallest SRT vehicle will be available for purchase. Chrysler's turbocharged 2.4-liter world engine will still boast a best-in-class 280 HP and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. All that power to the front wheels will be kept under control by an electronically-tuned brake lock differential that controls throttle, spark advance, and boost, while a Getrag six-speed manual transmission will round out the powertrain. To make sure the Caliber SRT-4 holds the same value quotient of the Neon SRT-4, Dodge is working hard to deliver a stripped-down model at just under $20,000.

When we heard that the Caliber would be FWD and have 300 HP, we were skeptical that such a light vehicle would be able to handle that much grunt being sent to the front wheels. 280 HP isn't a drastically lower number, but Dodge engineers are at least trying to keep the prodigious understeer in check. If Dodge can deliver a budget hot rod under $20,000 that boasts 280 useful horsepower and a road-holding suspension (plus those trick 19" SRT wheels), then the Mazdaspeed3 and VW R32 are going to be in for some stiff competition.
