I dont know a whole lot about TV's, but a buddy of mine just picked up a 37" Vizio from costco for $799. It looks amazing. I believe the step up 42" was $999, and then they had a 50" for like $1,600. You should check them out. He uses his all the time with his xbox360, and also connects it to the computer for his monitor, and it hasnt taken a shit on him yet. Its been about 8 months.

Since you guys know about this stuff, I want to get a small one (maybe 17" or less) LCD, that can function as a computer screen or a tv. is there a good website that explains the technology for tv/computer/vcr/dvd on all one screen? I'm not a tv person, but I like movies, and I would like the computer screen to also function as a tv screen.

Ya, I wouldn't buy a expensive LCD or plasma TV like that from online. Most places won't let you return it unless there are a large number of dead pixels in the visible viewing area. Of course then you have to pay postage again, and good luck getting them to refund your money. It would be worth the extra piece of mind, and money to buy what you can see first hand.

no way i have had a 61 hitachi hdtv it was huge. Movies looked good but normal tv will look like shit. If you only watch hd then cool if you watch both go smaller

oh and i have sold hdtvs for 4 years installed them for 3 years on the side and have owned 4 hd sets so far so I know what im talking about

ok, so im looking at getting a big tv sometime in the future. and of course the big question...plasma vs lcd. some of you guys know your shit, ive heard to not get plasma cuz they get too hot and start to burn out components. and whats the diff between regular and projection hdtv? i guess all the flat screens would be non projection correct?

im probalby lookin to spend about 1500ish

lcd all the way if you lay a plasma on its side its ruined with lcd no worries

also plasma looses its color over time.

definitly lcd . plasma looks better for a short while but doesnt last . Plasma technology has not been perfected yet . if your spending 1500ish look into the samsung lcd i have . it got the best reviews ,is full 1080p and im just liking it more and more while watching it . the black level is also very good . I have watched the met game in hd and i was amazed . i will never go back to sd .

plasma is not on its way out. Technology is better than it was 3 years ago. Today's plasma can last you up to 10 years instead of 3. If you plan to put it in a dark room, I highly recommend plasma, otherwise go with LCD. As far as brands, I think Hitachi makes the best plasma while Samsung makes the best LCD. If you plan to keep it under 46" then it doesn't matter much if you get 1080i or 1080p because you won't notice the difference in picture. Although progressive scanning is a little pricier. HDMI inputs is a must and the more the merrier. Pair it up with HDDVD or Bluray and you can never go back.
