If you guys can afford it, it's worth every single penny. I know a lot of us older guys are into that stuff. The picture with the right home theater system is breathe taking. My fiancee got me the PS3 because I bought myself a 1080i hdtv and I use to mostly play movies. The picture quality is amazing. You can never go back to regular tv. You gotta get 1080, if you're tv is less than 50in then it won't matter if it's interlace or progressive scanning. You won't notice the difference between 1080i or 1080p. I have a 42 in plasma flat screen because my room is dark and my lil bro has the lcd. Mounted on the wall with swiveling, extending and tilting arm. I prefer plasma because the picture is brighter and more colorful. You wanna talk detail? You can see every vain, sweat, bumps, pimples, cuts and guts in absolute clarity. So much better than regular DVDs. Go out and get it once you swapped the mod bug. Any of you others who have this set up chime in.

I'm just using my shitty upconverting DVD player for now. I can't justify spending that much money just yet. I still want to see which way it will go between HDDVD's and BluRay. I guess I'll see which price drops first. I would imagine since Sony pushes BluRay, HDDVD's will set the market and go cheaper earlier. emoji
Anyway, regular movies upconverted to 1080i aren't that bad. (for now) emoji

I'm still using just (progressive) component from my PS2 on my 1080i HDTV and that looks wicked to me.. I can't imagine it on BlueRay.

HD-DVD is already a lot cheaper than Blu-Ray, but Blu-Ray has a lot more going for it IMO. It can hold a lot more data than an HD-DVD and has a lot of support for it (movie studio-wise, Sony owns 2-3 itself).

I personally prefer LCD over Plasma as they are cheaper and have a longer life-span than plasma. They may not be as thin, but plasma is on it's way out actually. My dad owns an electronic store and I hear all about it.

Believe it or not people claim the picture on HDDVD is better than BluRay. I haven't notice. Only difference is BluRay can hold a little more information meaning more room for special features and longer length films. So movies like the Godfather series, Pearl Harbor, Lord of the Rings superextended deleted scenes can be put on once disk instead of 2-3. As far s movie licensing, some production companies believe both will be around for a while and they're distributing movies in both format. The price of HDDVD players have gone done in the last month so I think I'll be getting one too.

Where can I download this patch? I believe bluray is still better than standard DVD. And I'll continue to buy bluray.

I have a 60" 1080i Toshiba LCD TV and an XBOX 360 + HD DVD addon drive.
the movies look a billion times better on HD DVDs, but its still making it hard to pick up a HD DVD for 29.99 when I can get the DVD for 13.88

PS: do you like your PS3? The hardware looks solid but man does the software ever seem to blow.... 2 or 3 good games in 6 months? oh Yeah, Forza II came out today I need to go pick it up, I p reordered it like a year ago, heh got the steering wheel too!

I'm probably going to buy the $199 HD DVD add-on for the XBOX360. I have a 50" Plasma and could never go back to a regular tube SDTV.

But I still want to wait to see who wins the format war.
